PPPPPS: Okay so, once I stopped laughing so hard, I had to admit I’d been a bit over dramatic. I probably wouldn’t have left the forum just over this change. I still think it’s a bad decision for a lot of reasons but since I’m not hanging around I won’t go into it all. It’s particularly hilarious to me that I got dog piled over a "snowflake" comment, not even aimed at this forum, then right after that a snowflake rule is brought in. Then everyone changes their tune and it’s actually a great thing to be a snowflake. (Well not everyone, I gather some other people also think this rule is a bad idea.)
I understand the motivation behind the rule, but I think the execution is really bad and it makes absolutely no sense in isolation. It’s a propagation of the social brainwashing that particular words can be so evil no one must ever say or see them, and this has absolutely the opposite intended effect. People can’t decide whether they want to hide the past, or rub it in peoples' faces. How about neither: let it go. The word (and let’s be honest, it’s all about one word here, no one gives a shit about someone calling me a cream cracker) is just as "potent" today as it’s ever been, whereas it could have been allowed to die if people just stopped reacting so hard to it all the time and paid some sort of attention to context and intention instead. There’s already rules, on forums and in society in general, regarding being shitty to someone. Classing specific words as "hate speech", regardless of context, is arbitrary, stupid and dangerous in my opinion. The ever growing category of "hate speech" is the tool that the psychotic left is currently using to shut down any and all discussion they don’t like. They’re trying to conflate words with actions, and this kind of rule helps blur that line.
Honestly. Writing "the n word" instead of just writing the word out makes me shake my head in disbelief. It sounds like a child who is scared they might summon a demon. Will it make history repeat itself? Will it kill 20 kittens? Will it send a black dude into slavery? Who cares what I think, I’m a fucking moron who already said he wasn’t going to post anymore. And I said I wasn’t going to go into the details. Well, I haven’t. Not much. I barely scratched the surface. Oh noes, you insulted me based on my race. That’s infinitely worse than anything else that could be said, for some reason.
I thought I should say that I overreacted anyway. I don’t think anyone should listen to my opinion though. Why am I still posting here, I thought I’d left? Well, yeah. I don’t fucking know. Yes, I’ve left. I guess it’s just really sad for me, like the end of an era.
