Wow. Such ignorance.
My ancestry is norman french.
Moron.
You are somehow spectacularly fond of being flat out wrong. Why is that?
Actually, a very good friend of mine in Belfast was forced to conceal a Barret 50 in his back yard. At the point of a gun and threats to himself, his wife and his children,
He doesn't store it anymore. Why? because he is dead.

Then you genuinely have my sympathy. All of those guys got hurled into a no win scenario. I do not envy them in that situation. Nothing that they did would be right. This is not a wise situation to put one's military into. The grunts always end up doing the dying on the frontline.
Personally, I have family reasons to have no axe to grind. My great uncle was active in all of that. He went on to be part of the "special branch", During the war he was tasked with seeking out the Nazi's Gestapo agents. In the course of that work, he was a liason with the British Foreign Office.
Well, in the 70's he eventually married his opposite number. Everyone cheered. Irish spook marries foreign office spook. Nobody got all bent out of shape.
See this is part of the mythology. As an Irish man, I can observe all of the horrible things the military have done. I can also observe all of the horrible things the provos/IRA/INLA/shinners etc have done. All of them are wrong.
I can also sympathise with a squaddie dropped in a maelstrom with little to no guidance as to what the hell was going on.
