Sorry to inform you, but I have heard quite a few Christians use almost the same definition you are describing as a 'great example of the atheist definition of faith' to describe their faith. Sure. they use less snarky language, but the meaning is the same.
Yes, it is true, they also use the definition that you do at other times, but there is no mistaking they use this one too.
If they got it wrong, that is up to all you Christians to get together and decide which is the correct usage. Because I have seen Christians use the Bible to justify both definitions.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
