Ok... If your machine has the option for gas feed - upgrade to it.
Flux core is essentially the same as stick welding - with the smoke... Plus you get splatter all over. That contributes to ugly welds. You get cleaner welds and breatheable air using gas feed.
Also - if your machine is gas capable - make sure your polarity is correct.
Flux core = negative to stinger.
Gas feed = negative to workpiece.
That got me once... Couldn't get a good weld at all...
I have MIG, TIG and gas. If you want the cleanest - go TIG.
It's a cheapo Harbor Freight welder. I'll have to check to see if I can upgrade it, but I have my doubts. I'm not going to invest in yet another piece of equipment that I will probably use 10 times in my life, so I'll probably just stick to the oxyacetylene rig.
