I am familiar with the hero's journey, however I only know a little bit about Campbell himself.
Personally I find his discovery of the hero's journey fascinating as I am currently using it to inform the story that I am writing.
I also feel that the hero's journey may be useful on a personal level for growth and development as it seems to me that it is all about choosing valor and conquering your own inner darkness in order to stand up for what is right.
