They will try him. They will convict him.
Most likely, they'll determine he has a "mental disorder". Did you know that one cannot refuse treatment in the Scandinavian countries?
They will keep him forever in various types of custody situations, shuffling him from one point to another.
Just because they don't have an explicit life sentence doesn't mean they can't make a de facto life sentence.
They're going to treat him like a criminal and mentally ill person and prevent his societal reintegration through continued "hospitalization" and keep him in custody for life.
