You might have gotten divorced for a number of reasons..I'm sure your son understands.
Fair enough, it just felt that way coming so soon after me posting that I'm happily single and have a son.

I say you should love someone for who they are not who you want them to be. No one wants to be with someone who's going to say "I wish you could be more like..." or "I wish you would enjoy [whatever] like me" Enjoy your similarities as a couple but respect your differences.
I'd say that mentality works well if one is naturally inclined to be with someone else. As an independent person naturally, it becomes much easier to be picky, and I think it works itself out in the end - the independent people end up together, and more often than not are very happy. Being patient and waiting for the right person sometimes seems more reasonable then taking whoever's next and 'fixing' them to create something that never existed in the first place.
But hey, to each their own
