Why Your God?

Why Your God?
As I said in another thread:

"I find it interesting how Christians always argue for their god, that they don't seem to get that we reject all gods not just theirs ... sure they make general arguments for the existence of a god but you never find them citing the scriptures of other religions, only bible related ones."

Here are just a few of the gods/goddesses that humans believe in or have done so in the past:

So the question for all you believers out there is this ... why your god? Why should we take the claim to the existence of your particular god any more serious than we (and indeed you) take the claims for the existence of other gods?

Again the Stephen Roberts quote springs all too easily to mind, "I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."

RE: Why Your God?
I've answered this before. I consider all gods and conclude rationally what I do. Atheism is a philosophical position, so you have done the same and conclude that there is no god. It's the same thing essentially, with different outcomes.

RE: Why Your God?
So a belief in any of those gods listed above is every bit as reasonable as belief in yours?

I take it this reflects your reasoning Kyu as you apply it to mine? You also believe in any of those gods listed because they're every bit as reasonable as your disbelief?

Sorry to disappoint. My reasoning places my God as a reasonable conclusion. It's what I said.

Nice dodge so I'll ask again ... please try and answer it without being disingenuous this time.

Note: I don't believe in ANY of the gods listed.

Your use of the term 'disingenuous' is entirely meaningless Kyu.

We can only speak on behalf of our own belief stance. I accept, for instance, that your absurd position might be reasonable. I've held the position myself after all; though I consider everyone to have their own unique reasoning.

Personally I've considered all that I've come across and only conclude mine to be reasonable. So no, I wouldn't be able to say that all are potentially reasonable.

Well, it still isn't answering the question. The question is "Why your god?", you've basically just said "because I think my belief is right". You haven't given any reason for your stance at all. You have said you have answered it before but I don't remember reading one.

And, before you say I haven't either, my (and I guess Kyuuketsuki's) reason is "There is no evidence for *any* gods at all."

Exactly so but then Frodo hides behind disingenuous whenever it suits himself to do so ... his referring to me as the same is just another dodge IMO.

Fr0d0 seem to have evaded your question 3 times.

I was hoping to see him answer that question. Big Grin
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

RE: Why Your God?
Any gods or god doesn't exists since they are just an invention of mind.

Also some religious people that want to protect their faith often come up with things like that their God is undefinible, that it's life, not an object and are a big mystery and unknown.

Even though they say God can't define do they still have a defintion that he is undefinble. Even so how can they believe in god that they personally self say can't be heared, seen, felt, known, and that God is undefinble, a mystery, and not nessesarily have to be the truth? Some sya that you can't own the truth meaning that no one is right and no one is wrong including their own belief. The reason why they are christians is because they think it suits them. But still even though they say that they are not right (not wrong either) do they think God exists- which is very abstract.

Don't know if you share that belief Fr0d0 wonder if you could answer it anyway, perhaps?
