Dan Savage is quoted many times in the article, but in a single quote at the end, he put into much better words what I've trying to convey for a while now:

1990 was 21 years ago—an eternity in the evolution of attitudes toward gays and lesbians. What has he said about us lately?

Switch "gays and lesbians" for "the black community" and the quote still works in defense of Paul's supposed racist views.

What I have gathered is that there should be no law advocating or denying rights to marriage. That is how it should be. No law should be on the books saying only man/women. Marriage is a bond of companionship and "love". So fuck the law. There should be no one saying yes you can or no you can't. If Paul wants to let homosexuals do anything straight people can, they how could they hate his ideas on that.
I might not like the idea of man on man hot love, but I'm not gay so I shouldn't like it, but I shouldn't tell them they cant enjoy their hot love. It's like taste, all subjective to the person. You can't outlaw strawberry jam, but not raspberry, just because YOU don't like strawberry.

I agree with Paul. More and more he is the only person running on either side, who has some rational ideas.
