You bring up a valid point!
But... are in-laws also 'family'?

God forbid!
They'd make assholes of themselves getting slaughtered!
And who wants to look stupid?

I should hope so: I've got one beside my bed.
But I'm a past pro at the Nielsen ratings game.

If baseball teams played only 16 games per year their ratings would be sky high, too.

Add up all the viewers over a 162 game schedule.

For that matter, The Dallas Cowboys drew under 700,000 fans while the Yankees and Phillies drew nearly 4 million.

It's apples and oranges because of number of games played and the capacity of the stadiums.

The core value of those sports markets, any sports markets, irrespective of the size of their stadiums or numbers of games played*, is their public image. It needs to be protected at all costs. That's what they do by keeping the USA's best national team out of the global competition. To keep the fairy tale alive, hiding behind a regulation that could of course be amended if they wanted. But they don't. Too risky for the image.

* Oh, and you forgot the media and seasonal multipliers there.

Its funny because I could care less about any sport that isnt combative.

And I dont have to watch whiny jesus freaks complain when he misses a few tosses of a football. I only have to listen to religious nuts if they win the fight and then laugh as they thank their god for giving them the power to knock another man out, makes sense right? if Jesus gives you the power of a left hook, come out swingin "Thank You For My Punching Power, Jesus" same for football too I guess "Thank you god for the power to be able to ruin that guys knees and back for life"

WTH are you talking about. The 2011 World Cup began in September...that is right at the end of the Major League Season. Do you seriously expect them to give that up to play in a bullshit tournament?

Get real, man.

From a financial perspective you're completely right of course.
From an achievement, sporting, and guts perspective it sucks, though! It is unworthy of the boastful self-proclaimed 'leader of the free world', and the 'World Series' still have nothing whatsoever to do with the real world. It's a pathetic misnomer. Another example of Newspeak IRL. It simply is totally not what it purports to be.

In the old days we naievely and crudely used to call that a bald-faced lie. A.k.a. a crock.
But hey, what did we know?
That was before American-invented marketing and PR. The Bullshit Machine.
I know. I made my career in that Bullshit Machine. I was, officially, a major bullshitter!

And you never lose that, of course. Big Grin

Americans don't give a shit about the rest of the world. The national hockey league has shut down a couple of time to play in the fucking olympics and it is the stupidest thing they have done since the lockout. Kills the momentum of the season.

If they interrupted the baseball season so a bunch of guys could go off to play in a fucking tournament I'd be super pissed. They'd end up playing the World Series in the snow in late November. The goddamn season goes on long enough as it is.
