Yeah, I do find that he's rather depressing, the way he puts down mankind, but I feel that half of what he says are true, come to think of it (putting aside the boring, repetitive bits of course). I think humanity really needs to get a grip on itself. True, religion can be a great moral guideline at times, but at others it really holds people back. People really need to NOT let religion control their lives, their time, thoughts and everything, completely and permanently (which does breed contempt, as Nietzsche has said more than a dozen times), and in turn forsake human advancement.

Where I'm from, I'd probably get jailed if I said that, but oh! the wonders of the Interwebz. xD

Never read Nietzche, not strange since I don't read books. But wasn't he clinical depressed or something liked that?

I think I heard he went mad...that is not to say he didn't make good points and have a good philosophy though...or at least some good in it.

I think I heard it may be because people made stawmen out of his philosophy or something...and Hitler also later used and twisted it and interpreted in his own evil and sick ways I heard...is that right?

Yeah, but in the past, 'clinically depressed' is known simply as 'crazy'. It seems all the good philosophers go mad at one point or another. :/

I don't know about the Hitler bit, but I'm quite sure such people won't let such good work go to waste. But yeah, I agree that he did make many good points and good philosophies. He did have quite a major part to play in the Atheist, or Anti-Christ community, methinks!

Well that can only be good in my book. Nothing is more important than questioning.

Haha. That's true.

The main reason I 'quit' Christianity was because of Christians really. I quote a certain site:

<XnD> Personally its not God I dislike, its his fan club I cant stand

But yes. It gets rather irritating.

First of all there are the preachers. They preach good morals and good habits, but more often than not fail to practice these habits themselves; ironic, much like Al Gore's annual electricity consumption. Need I dig up newspaper articles on particular priests?

Then second, there are the converters. They just brainwash those who can't really think for themselves as of yet, and they hard-headedly try to 'persuade' others to join their religion, even though its more of like 'if you don't become Christian, I'm telling you that you'll burn in Hell, then you'll regret it'. And the next day they just come back for more. Its incessant.

Three, those who base their arguments on God. Its more or less like, 'You must do this, because God says so!' 'We must do that, because God says so!' When you hear it everyday, you just get tired of it.

And last but definitely not least, the narrow-minded. They simply can't stand it if people question or make small jokes about their religion. Worse, they get extremely defensive, and start scolding and threatening and whatnot. They simply cannot accept other people's viewpoints, at all. These people really disgust me, for lack of a better word.

So yes, essentially that was my experience as a Christian, and I dare not say its much different nowadays. fr0d0 you're actually one of the better ones? Because you accept questioning. There are worse people out there.

But that's what I think.

I totally agree with all of that Azazylix. Love the quote Smile

As an atheist I think I hated them more. I used to think I needed to stay clear of sharp objects sometimes in case I might be tempted to actually harm some of them, peace loving as I am Big Grin

I got it off bash.org, you should go there, you can spend entire days laughing. xD

Bah, I never really thought much of peace. I'd rather take, in subtler terms, 'preventive action'. Its not that I'm a sadistic, monstrous war-monger but I believe that peace, in most cases, simply breeds inactivity and contempt, and gradual degradation. Look at the UN, for goodness sake!

UN in most case is a failure.

War is something built out of paranoia and fear. Peace can only be created by understanding and knowledge.

My country is peaceful, so is the entire scandinavia and most of europe. The only hostility in my country are racists, which are just ridicilous.

Otherwise have we not been in war since some time during the 19th century. So peace can exists with out breeding inactivity, contemt and gradual degradation.

I was rather nder the impression that war was something that tends to arise out of pressure for resources.

Maybe but according to Wiki (not my favourite source) Swedish WW2 neutrality was rather ineffectual as they still supplied steel and machined parts to Nazi Germany and some have even accused Sweden of cowardice because of their stance.
