It's not a matter of what is "ok". What you may think is ok or not or what I think is ok or not is not the issue here. If it is not against the rules, we will not ban a person. Just because this person rubs you the wrong way is not a sufficient cause to gauntlet or ban a person. Like I said, this is not a mob rule.

I was in no way arguing for 'mob rule'. And as I have implied in other threads... I WILL put people on ignore should they "rub me the wrong way" as you seem so fond of saying, "until I calm down or they post something intelligent"

My argument is against people (and it seems that mostly new theists are the guilty parties here) waltzing on to this forum with no introduction and start spamming discussion threads with links under the delusion that they are "saving our souls, informing us of god (insert favourite deity here), and why we should all listen to them and their particular point of view (read grovel at their knowledge)"

Whilst all of us here do have a morbid delight in badgering said offenders with sarcasm and wit and simple plain logic, there does come a time (especially when said offenders are hogging the Shout Box with gratuitous posts) and they are not engaging in a discussion that the fur starts to fly and I start to get murderous.... metaphorically speaking

What you seem to have implied is that it is ok to troll and not enter into a discussion, it is ok to have random people just barge in and do a post and runner, it is all well and good for these posters to spam other people via PM's with religious nonsense and scripture... that posting nothing but links amounts to you being "the best poster on the forum"

No leo...enough is enough. There is a limit to what is tolerated on this forum and I strive to stay with-in those guidelines... I start to get rather upset when persons of the religious persuasion start appearing to get preferential treatment as if the rest of us should all bow down and accept the interloper who seems to have the fiendish delight of a two year old in pushing the boundaries.

It's hard to be sucked into the interactive field that is a forum when you're barred from participating until you have first posted in places where you have no interest 'X' amount of times.

By stopping a few bad eggs from instantly jumping into X thread upon joining, it might be possible to lose the interest of someone who might otherwise have become engaged in the community.

I have personal issues with gatekeeping... so perhaps I am a biased source when I say that my interest rapidly wanes when I am faced with it. What if one of the 10 people who are almost exactly like me on this planet starts out intrigued but by their fifth post is bored out of their skull? Hell, some days I can barely find two threads that I have any interest in responding to at all... and that's after being saturated in an environment where I usually enjoy the company of the people.

TL: DR

I don't desire losing a single potential member to gatekeeping, whether bad egg or FOTM.

I do think it should be encouraged to make an intro thread. I'm sure we all prefer it that when meeting someone new, they introduce themselves before spouting their religious beliefs at us.

Encouraged but not enforced. We enforced it for the first year or so of the forum and all it did was piss off newcomers.

Perhaps a message / link once someone has registered to suggest it?
