Mass Effect 3 Countdown.

Bioware has defended the decision to launch the DLC " In ashes" where you can recruit a Prothean squad member, some very die-hard fans feel this is just EA being greedy, and that any content that is released on the same day as the game content is released should be in the game from the start.

Not being funny, but if they are really 'fans' they'd buy it anyway. I'm getting the collector's edition and that has it included. Don't see why people would be that pissed, the last DLC squad members (in ME2) didn't really interact with you in the same way as other squad members anyway. If people are really bothered about paying for it I highly doubt they'll be missing out on much.

I have played ME1 and 2 many many times and I have just finished ME2 again in the way I want to transfer it to ME3. I can hardly wait for this game to come out. I was a HUGE fan of Assassin's Creed but ME has trumped it by far. I don't really care what I have to pay for DLC wise or why they put them out. I was sated with the DLC for ME2 these couple of years and, yes, hook, line and sinker...EA has got me by the crotch. Even Skyrim didn't touch ME2 for me. I'm still not tired of playing it over and over again.

I hate to say it, but Skyrim is almost as repackaged as call of duty. It is to me, for all intents and purposes, Oblivion version 2. After playing so many hours of Fallout as well, the game just feels so old and dated to me.

I loved the first Elder Scrolls games (Morrowwind in particular), but felt the later ones were just dumbed down loads. Big arrows pointing to where you need to go, instant fast travelling etc. But my biggest complaint was the whole idea of levelled loot! It completely negated the point of exploring! You know what's in every dungeon, every cave simply by checking your characters level. Level 1 and you find iron/steel weapons etc, level 50 and its exactly the same but ebony or deadric gear. You never found anything unique or special like in Fallout say.

Anyway, can't wait for ME3, loved the first two, I class them as some of my favourite games. Huge sci-fi fan! where Mass Effect shines over others is the storyline, its like starring in your very own movie!
The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counterintuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what's true - Carl Sagan

Agreed, although I did think Skyrim was more engaging then Oblivion. I got tired of side quests with Oblivion whereas I didn't with Skyrim so I did think it was an improvement. I did enjoy going the 'stealth/archer' route for combat purposes and discovering some of the interesting quest lines was fun, I bugged out so bad before the patches I couldn't get my 8th mask to see what the last mask was so I had to start over. That irritated me. Alot of the issues were fixed but I still freeze now and again and I found the ending a bit lackluster. It would be nice to go into a town and be recognized as the new Emporer or something instead of being called smelly cuz I'm a werewolf!

I agree. The idea of levelling enemies for certain places makes sense to me, but doing it everywhere and levelling loot also is ridiculous.

As for fast travelling, I think it was handled best in Morrowind. Although you couldn't just open up a map and click to wherever, you did still have options if you wanted to go somewhere fast. Silt striders and mages transportation was fucking cool! Not only was it there if you wanted to use it, yet limited in some respect, but it most importantly made sense relative to the game world. That's the most important factor to me. Especially if I want to get immersed in the world. Nothing breaks that immersion more than a loading screen and then woop, suddenly you're where you want to be.

Oblivion and Skyrim just didn't give me the same buzz of exploration like Morrowind did, for this very reason.

You have Bioware to thank for that, they truly are a superb company. Check out Knights of the Old Republic if you haven't already.
I hope I can get work experience with them when I have to do my placement. Probably pissing in the wind but a guy's gotta hope.

Regrettably I didn't play Morrowind...bought it for my PC but never got through Oblivion to move on to it. I ended up playing Oblivion on the Xbox (and subsequently Skyrim). Sounds like I missed a unique experience. I was big into WoW back then and went back to it. I'm over the MMO thing...don't have the time or want to do it again.

That's the thing which pisses me off most about Skyrim. For everything you can do in the game you hardly ever get recognised for it. Even the people of the guild you're supposedly leader of will only ever make a passing comment. In the thieves guild they don't even do that.

No that is definitely not true. Fans who have been waiting for ME3 for months are seriously boycotting the game over this, because if this kind of business model is going to take hold, you will see a trend where you will get less and less content in the released main game, and you will get more of the asian "keep buying addons" style of games. It is a cashcow, plain and simple. Most games with some notable exceptions are way too short anyway. Paying for cosmetic DLC is fine as it doesn't affect the gameplay, buying DLC where the game gets so unbalanced and therefore way too easy is something that already doesn't sit right with me, but this is just moneygrabbing for the sake of moneygrabbing.

As for the release of a DLC because it couldn't be pressed on media in time for release, I could sort of get behind that, but there is no reason to sell the material as a whole in a digital distribution like steam.

Bullshit. This DLC won't affect anything else about the game. Guarantee it. All it will do is give you one more party member who will not operate the same way as the other party members. Just like Zaeed and Kasumi in ME2, sure they are great add ons, but you can play the whole game without them and get the same experience. They bring nothing to the table but a different looking person following you around. This DLC will be just the same.

This is NOT the same as taking a portion of the full game and making you pay extra for it. This isn't making the game 'unbalanced' if you don't buy it. Absolute tosh.

The people who will be supposedly 'boycotting' this are fools. If they want to miss out on one of the greatest gaming experiences going then they can be my guest, but frankly the reasons they are doing so are stupid. I'd gladly pay twice as much for this game than half the other crap on the gaming market today regardless.
