Sleeping Patterns

RE: Sleeping Patterns
One of the benefits to hardcore, no sleep for days, perhaps walking around not truly awake insomnia is that you are exposed to the wide breadth and variation of late night (and early morning) infomercial entertainment, as well as a heaping dose of televangelism and donation drives.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I complete 1-2 trenches on my MFLB nearly every night.

It relaxes me, let's me listen to music in bed and get's me into the mood.

I wake up at 7am, get to the train at 8am, spent 2 hours on the train to SF, work until 8:30pm, take the BART back to a half way point (~hour) and get home by 10:30pm.

I usually fall asleep around 1am.

I wish I didn't spent ~4 hours of my day in transit.

I've estimated that of the 9.5 months I've been employed, I've spent 2.66 months sitting on my ass waiting to get to work.

You're not relaxed enough or have too much energy.

Try exercise or meditation.

RE: Sleeping Patterns
When I was working I was a terrible night owl. Up till 1-2 every morning and then up around 8 to get to work by 9. The key was a 20 minute power nap when I got home. I could also fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow....a talent I still retain.

Now, no one seems to care when I get up- except the dog and when she has to go out she is not above poking me with her nose.

If this was for me, my answer is no. Chemically controlling what is controlled by chemicals at its root in order to get the sleep I need to be healthy and to function at a high level intellectually is an easy equation for me. There is no dependency on the drug I use, because I take it infrequently (not at all this past week, for instance), but when I know I am unlikely to sleep without it, there is no hesitation, nor do I feel I do anything but profit from the result of that decision.

the televangelism alone is enough to shun cable AND tv. Which is pretty much what I have done. I once called my cable TV provider with a list of channels I didnt wish to support "I HATE sky angel, and I dont want The Bible network, nor do I wish for my money to support such scoundrel snake oil cultists" they reply "You cant pick and choose. You have to pay for those channels in the package."

Well fuck it...turn my tv channels off and I will just have internet. I did that 3 years ago and my life has been better since then.

I heard that around the time I asked to dump those channels, that there was a movement within the Christian cultist community of trying to force cable TV to do the same thing. To allow people to pick and choose which channels they wanted. That way, they figured, they could more control the other channles "Do what we Christians want you to do or lose your payments"..

Well, it completely backfired on them. Once the word got out to people like Pat Robertson and TBN, they started screaming "NO!!! True Christians dont break up cable TV packages!" Why? Because the snake oil salesmen are well aware that most of their money comes from govt. grants and people being FORCED to buuy their package in a group. If you make it all optional, then they lose both. Because only a tiny, TINY percent of Americans would actually purchase these networks.

Of course, they didt say THAT was the reason. No, that would be too much like telling the truth. Something that evangelists are loath to do. No. Instead they reminded their sheep that forcing the unbeliever to pay for bible programming saves souls every day.

Does anyone else remember when this happened?

I find the christian channels more fun than some of the comedy channels Big Grin

Good for a quick laugh when I'm bored

I didn't. I fell asleep with one open, and people seem to assume that between the times of 11pm and 5:30 am, I might have some important shit to talk about...when really I'm slaying zombies and having sex with Gerard Butler in my dreams.

I have people who are in my same time zone who message me during those times and it's never to share some profound insight...it's always "I'm bored."

Fuck you, go to sleep.

That said, I used to exist on 3-4 hours, but since I started exercising and losing weight, I like my 6-8. I got it last night, though not for gym time. Wink
