Have you ever asked them why they bully you?

In my experience bully's don't give you much opportunity to have a civil conversation.

Until you hit a growth spurt and beat the shit out of them Big Grin

Well, I was bullied when I was young, however it certainly never was due to my religious or political associations.
It just sounds too foreign to me.
It baffles me how there is persecution against atheists in America or in the western world, whereas I've never seen such a thing in Turkey. And the city I live in is moderately conservative.

I've seen it in school once or twice over religion. But to be honest people will find excuse they can to bully.

Guessing that his atheism was the first thing they found to justify it to themselves.

Hm, well, you misunderstand the mindset here in America where secularism is supposed to be the law, but no religious person likes it. The "in group" mentality is very strong here.

Well, here, religious reasons are not seen as a reason for bullying, unless there are people who put too much value on their own sect of Islam.
Even than, they are more hostile towards alevis, than towards outspoken atheists.
However, even the most outspoken atheist here is generally not taken very seriously, unless they are trying to offend people on purpose, even then, they are warned, and if they continue, ignored.

I myself have always put an emphasis on the issue of faith being a personal issue, never asked one's religious opinions, for that matter, and rarely speak to people about my own.

Then why are you on a religion/nonreligion based forum site?
Atheism is a non-prophet organisation. - A dusty old book that I found that must be completely true because someone wrote it down.

I don't really want to bring back a dead thread, but I have just had another experience with prejudice in my school.

Today, in my computer class, I tried to get on atheistforum.org, and was saddened to see that it was blocked by the IP address.
For what reason? It said it was for quote "Alternative beliefs" Although after checking if christianforums.net was blocked, i found it wasn't.

Does this seem right?!!!

I was bullied at school, but only ever once by the same bully:

At 8 I beaned one with a half brick.

At 11, one sat on me and tried to stuff grass into my mouth. I bit his finger to the bone.

At 12, I punched one in the gut, breaking his floating rib.

Ah,memories. I guess times have changed.Thinking
