What is it about America? Does America's education system just suck?

RE: What is it about America? Does America's education system just suck?
Combat arms as a whole is actually tiny -takes a lot of rear guard assholes to support one guy on the frontlines (just kidding rear-guard assholes, I love yall). A soldier -is- a soldier, regardless, and yes, alot of the personnel in Cav units are infantry, if the vehicle has dismounts the operators are also infantry.

We used to get a hell of a laugh out of people who joined the Army for college funds. Most of the giggles involved reminding them of all the less shitty ways one could go about getting the scratch to go to school- relative to the path they decided was a good idea....and perhaps, considering that decision...that they probably didn't belong in college anyway (specifically in the case of infantry).
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. Yes, but they were classified as Heavy Cavalry, as here in the French OOB at Borodino.

Quote:
III Cavalry Corps
Commander: GdD Grouchy
Chief-of-staff: Marquis de Jumilhac

3rd Light Cavalry Division: GdD Chastel
- - - - - - - - Light Cavalry Brigade: GdB Gauthrin
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - 6th Hussars [3 sq.]
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - 8th Chasseurs [4 sq.]
- - - - - - - - Light Cavalry Brigade: GdB Gerard
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - 6th Chasseurs [3 sq.]
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - 25th Chasseur [3 sq.]
- - - - - - - - Light Cavalry Brigade: GdB Dommanget

6th Heavy Cavalry Division: GdD Lahussaye
- - - - - - - - Heavy Cavalry Brigade: GdB Thiry
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - 7th Dragoons [3 sq.]
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - 23rd Dragoons [3 sq.]
- - - - - - - - Heavy Cavalry Brigade: GdB Seron
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - 28th Dragoons [3 sq.]
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - 30th Dragoons [3 sq.]

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - IV Horse Battery/6th Horse Art. Reg. [6]

In order to be real cavalry there must be horseshit in their wake...not diesel fumes!

There are at least 20 other branches of the United States Army. Unless quite a few of them make up a very small percentage of the Army, we are left with infantry making up the greatest percentage. Furthermore, it is 15%, not less than 10.

http://www.army.mil/article/45200/infant...d-demands/

My source puts it at about 8.7% in 2009.

Quote:For instance, in the United States Army of 2009, there were only approximately 49,000 Infantrymen[1] out of about 565,000 active duty enlisted personnel.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infantry

The only other branch of the US military that has any infantry is the Marine Corps. It is the smallest service branch. If you add the Air Force and Navy that don’t have any infantry the total percentage is going to go down not up.

Things could and probably have changed some since I was in the military in the 80’s, but I doubt they have changed that much. When I served the non-combat arms branches of the Army outnumbered the combat arms branches about 4 to 1. Combat arms includes more than infantry. If anything I would expect the percentage of infantry to go down as the military becomes more dependent on technology. The point being that it takes a lot of people behind the lines to support a soldier in the field. Together there are far more technicians, mechanics, clerks, cooks, truck drivers and other support personnel than infantry serving in our armed forces.

My source is the Army.

My point wasn't that the Army is chock full of infantry. My point is that the main fighting force of the army is infantry. Most other shit is in support of infantry and/or at least has infantry training.

It was 6-1 when I joined Poppy. Yeah, the main fighting force (of the army) is infantry. The Army is an occupation force. Bodies on the ground and all that jazz. Who else would fight though? The non-combat types?

Only Infantry have Infantry training....don't make me dislike you Shell...hooah?

Hehe, don't go all "I got the best of the best of the best, sir." on me, Rhythm. I mean that even medics and whatnot have to do rifle qualifications and the like. Sure, they don't get the same training as say a mortarman, but they sure don't just skip through the tulips or learn how to fly kites on their ways to becoming medics.

It used to be that the Marine Corps was the only service that prided itself one the whole 'every man a rifleman' deal. Meaning yes while EVERY Soldier, Marine, Sailor and Airman qualified with a rifle that does not constitute infantry training. It goes much farther into squad tactics and such I have heard that the army picked up the 'every man a rifle' deal a few years ago and has implemented the same 'infantry crash course' for non-infantry MOSs due to the severe change in tactics with these past two wars. Realistically the whole Heavy Cavalry thing is totally different now as well since Cav units have Armored units like tanks and such. So while a small percentage of the force is infantry a slightly larger portion is combat arms as a whole they are very small compared to the massive support element involved (especially with the army as they are more designed as an occupational force)
I'm no one special and I treat everyone the best I possibly can, but to you believer, despite my acts, I am condemned to hell.

If you go to church you just find it full of old and middle aged people, and some captive kids who are forced to go. I guess we're smarter than our parents generation.

What is it about America that so many people still believe in the virtually literal word of the Bible and are such strong Christians.

Do they actually teach kids science and evolution in American schools?

It makes me think either Americans are genetically stupider than other countries or their education system must be absolutely terrible.

Well it is usually accepted that an UK A-Level is about the same as a US college Associate Degree. Much the same can be said for the Australian Higher School Certificate (HSC).

I might add that the higher levels of religious observance in the United States, could be due to the fact the United States never had a state supported church (unlike the countries of Europe). So different churches competed with each other for adherents and those with theologies that could attract more people thrived, at the expense of others whose theologies did not attract people. Hence the Evangelical Christianity which is so prevalent in America today is a totally different beast to the sort of Christianity the Calvinist Puritans brought to New England.
