It's not that I doubt you. Believe me, that is not the case, but how do they want to re work engineering and why?
I have studied the Bible and the theology behind Christianity for many years. I have been to many churches. I have walked the depth and the breadth of the religion and, as a result of this, I have a lot of bullshit to scrape off the bottom of my shoes. ~Ziploc Surprise

If Tenessee wants to go back to the dark ages (along with Texas and Arizona and... So on...), I think they should just go ahead and do so. That's kind of the idea behind the separate states. Do your thing. No one is forced to live there. If they prefer the laws in another state, they can move there.

Theoretically.

I will lol and lol and lol if, a hundred years from now, the fundy-controlled states are back to nineteenth century technology, their crime rates continue to lead the nation, their taxes are still out of control, they're dieing of various diseases because they stopped vaccinations, and they cry and cry because they can't figure out why Jesus isn't helping them. . .

Seriously, if all their goals passed, that's where they would be. In some ways, I hope their laws do pass- just so they can be reminded why humanity started choosing science over their way in the first place.

Engineering, like so many other scientific disciplines, relies on the fundamental laws of nature (i.e., thermodynamics, and many others). If you've read any of these creationist web sites, you will note that they are trying to refute these fundamental laws in ways that can affect even applied scientific disciplines such as engineering. I'll be the first to admit that they have not made strong inroads in this area for obvious reasons, but that hasn't stopped them from trying.

"In short, Meyer has shown that his first disastrous book was not a fluke: he is capable of going into any field in which he has no training or research experience and botching it just as badly as he did molecular biology. As I've written before, if you are a complete amateur and don't understand a subject, don't demonstrate the Dunning-Kruger effect by writing a book about it and proving your ignorance to everyone else! "

I must admit. That argument using the 2cnd Law of Thermodynamics gets on my last nerve. They all copy and paste the blurb about it but don't understand the first thing about entropy. Then they say "See this paragraph I don't understand proves evolution can't be true."

Of course, but if you came here and offered what we call 'uninformed insults' somebody would probably deck you. Big Grin

I had a thought. Hear me out:

This is bill is not good because it introduces creationism and pseudo science into the classroom. Obviously only valid scientific theories that meet the standards of being considered a scientific theory should be taught as "science. However, by introducing creationism into the science classroom this may be a case of "fruit of the poison tree" meaning that now that creationism and pseudo science have been introduced into a SCIENCE classroom they can be addressed scientifically in an academic setting. In other words teachers could teach the flaws and contradictions in creationism and climate denial under the same law. Teachers may now literally be able to teach against religion in the science classroom by critiquing the alternate theories to evolution protected under the law. I would love to see legal precedent set for this!

I never thought about it that way. Hopefully you're right. Too bad this doesn't apply to history classes- when I get my degree, I could bash the church for witch-burnings and the dark ages!

Starting to think state laws thing if quite terrible. And some people do not have the option to ship up and move.

Does state law override the constitution? If not, I would love to see the first court case that comes from an "enforcement" of this law.
