What's not to love?

RE: What's not to love?
The Honey Badger thing? I have no idea, except that 'Honey Badger don't give a shit' about something.

Rhythm Wrote:I beg to differ, at least insomuch as I am apparently not one of you. Ehrman believes there was a "Historical Jesus", whatever that means. I do not, he and I are clearly operating on different sets of standards, at least in this regard. There is nothing wrong with this, you're right...... unless you demand that truth claims be demonstrated. Then you have a serious issue. You may agree with scholars, I'd rather agree with demonstrable evidence, regardless of who presents it or what package it comes presented in.

I am entrenched fully in the 'who gives a shit' camp. Historical person or not, he still wasn't the son of god.

LOL, Google it Jess, it's a nature documentary,........of sorts. I noticed people have started working it into their commercials recently. Talk about late to the party.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

This is a funny app fir the iPhone in which this guy talks about the animals with terms like disgusting, gross, and such. It is nice a few times and then it gets old.

Hugs.

Perhaps it is past time to properly define this discussion.

A reasonable discussion of the Historical Jesus phenomenon...one which is sure to piss off fundies beyond belief!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_Jesus

Quote:The quest for the historical Jesus operates under the premise that the New Testament does not necessarily give an accurate historical picture of the life of Jesus. The biblical description of Jesus is sometimes referred to as the Christ of Faith in this context. The Historical Jesus is thus based on the ancient evidence for his life such as in fragments of early Gospels, and as preserved independently in the writings of neutral or hostile witnesses of the period, such as in the writings of Jewish historian Flavius Josephus[10] (see Josephus on Jesus and the Testimonium Flavianum) and various Roman documents, such as the Lives of the Twelve Caesars by imperial biographer Suetonius, and the correspondence of Pliny to Emperor Trajan.[11]

The purpose of research into the Historical Jesus is to examine the evidence from diverse sources and critically bring it together in order to create a composite picture of Jesus.[12][13] Use of the term the Historical Jesus implies that the figure thus reconstructed will differ from that presented in the teaching of the ecumenical councils ("the dogmatic Christ").[14]

Just from the brief quotation it is quite simple to see the problem with HJ methodology.

Frankly, what these guys are insisting upon is not so different from the Mythical Jesus position, which I suspect is correct.

Jesus who?

Is that the guy who turns big and green when he's angry or walks on water?

These fictional characters. You can keep them.

His followers.
"Sisters, you know only the north; I have traveled in the south lands. There are churches there, believe me, that cut their children too, as the people of Bolvangar did--not in the same way, but just as horribly. They cut their sexual organs, yes, both boys and girls; they cut them with knives so that they shan't feel. That is what the Church does, and every church is the same: control, destroy, obliterate every good feeling. So if a war comes, and the Church is on one side of it, we must be on the other, no matter what strange allies we find ourselves bound to."

I see by your signature you have no scruples. If you had a standard you would give it up to do away with the church, so what makes you any different than what you believe the church to be.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Huh? I have standards. My sig just states that if the church starts a religious war, I will be against it.

Just got done reading the last 7 pages of this ridiculous thread.

My synopsis.

If I had a nickle for every time a theist wrote something worth remembering in this thread ... well, lets just say I wouldn't be able to park my car at a parking meter any time soon.

Deist Paladin - Nice job. As always.
Minimalist - Always enjoy your historical references.
Rhythm - You almost always make me laugh out loud.
NoMoreFaith - One of these days I may just have to give you a Rep Point.

As for the historical jesus bit ...
I try not to spend a lot of time lamenting 2000 year old dead people.

Raise your hand if you don't give a fuck about some ancient hebrew corpse had to say. Hi
