cash for good grades

cash for good grades
As long as you stick to your word, that's a great way to motivate kids. My parents tried that with me but after I did well for a semester and they didn't stick to their word, I stopped having that as motivation. I plan on doing this with my son if it comes down to it.

Pfft. I have been paying my kid for his report cards since he was four. Nothing wrong with that. The kid works hard in school and is at the top of his class. Why wouldn't I reward him? I get paid to work, so should he. Sure, he is learning by being educated, but he gets up at 7:30 in the morning and isn't home until 3 in the afternoon. He has to do more schoolwork when he gets home and he has to do his extracurriculars. In other words, he busts his ass. Long story short, your kid clearly did too. She earned it.

Mmm,defensive,feeling guilty?

Mate, I never felt the need for my very own little nose miners. It is a matter of complete indifference to me how you choose to rear yours,or indeed,if you should both spontaneously combust. Tiger

guilty? not in the least. perturbed? yes.

one decision about grades is not "raising" a kid. i don't need help with the entirety that is involved in that, i have it under control. understood. so why you bothered to not only read but comment, has escaped me. mate. lol

A decision to bribe your kid is indeed about rearing it; there are implicit values in such behaviour. Not that you have any obligation to explain anything.

Yes, my bad,I responded to your belligerent defensiveness, which annoyed me; I REALLY don't care about you or your kind.

PS it's 'rearing'; one 'raises' crops Wink Shades

i'll use wording as i see fit. thanks for your input tho. also, if you wish to correct my word choice, please do so using spaces after your commas.

i rarely get annoyed and most of what i say is with a giggle, so my "belligerent defensiveness" was actually light-hearted. not knowing me, i don't expect you to know that. i like everybody's kind, but it's safe to assume i'm not crazy about you. Big Grin

I find it stupid to reward a child for doing stupid work.

They should be rewarded for excelling outside of their bounds, not staying comfortably (but doing well) within the confines.

Then again, I did science fairs. I did independent research. I interned at NASA.

I was never given money for school work I could assure highest or of undone quality.

You know what turned my initial sinking start of high school of C's, D's and one F into ending high school with A's and B's?

The fact that I exceeded the confines of my high school to indulge in the county and international science fairs, while the rest of my effing peers did nothing but their studies.

They got all A's. Having a 4.0 was common among the AP group I dealt with. To them, I was a semi-serious joke who couldn't even earn all A's.

Quite a few of them mad when they found out I got to UCLA and they didn't.

I wonder if it had to do with all that independent research, going to all those public colloquial at Stanford and Berkeley so I could articulate my fascination with systems analysis, having a track record in something other than fucking high school. Thinking

Heh not to be a jackass or anything, but I don't see how you can have a go at Pad's grammar when you never capitalise the letter "I" Wink

You also use "u" instead of you quite frequently also.

Just an observation.

As for the topic, raise your kids however you damn well want, as long as it is not harmful to the children in question. Is this harmful? I can't see it as being harmful. You're teaching your children that with hard work comes reward. If people want to twist it round that this is somehow 'bribery' then all of our fucking lives we are being 'bribed' to work and pay taxes.

If I was given 20 quid for every A I'd of got in school, I'd probably be in Oxford or Cambridge by now. Big Grin

I think it's ok to motivate kids with money, but I prefer Alei's method. As a kid, I was rarely rewarded, even though I got 9 and 10 all the time (in Finland we have grades from 4-10). When I finished elementary school (classes 1-6) my parents gave me the option to choose between in-lines or a mobile phone, if my average grade was over 9. Since no one my age had a cell at that time, I chose the in-lines. Smile
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura
