Cardinal Brady will not resign over 'abuse failure'

Cardinal Brady will not resign over 'abuse failure'
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-17921673

Quote:The Catholic primate of all-Ireland has said that he will not resign as Church leader despite revelations in the BBC's This World show.

It found Cardinal Sean Brady had names and addresses of those being abused by paedophile priest Brendan Smyth.

However, he did not pass on those details to police or parents.

Cardinal Brady said he accepted he was part of "an unhelpful culture of deference and silence in society, and the Church".

If the catholic church had any brains (and they don't) they would fire his ass immediately in an effort to show the world that they are taking a pro-active stance on stopping pedophilia in the church.

But nooooo. They'd rather see if god can make it go away. After all, he DOES work in mysterious ways.

This guy should be in prison, never mind out of a job. He had knowledge of an ongoing crime, with the information to report it to the relevant authorities, yet did nothing to stop it. Allowing such a horrific crime to happen is almost as bad as committing it yourself.

Isn't that called conspiracy?

I just read about this on the BBC website, the last paragraph reads: The Church also points out that in 1975 "no State or Church guidelines for responding to allegations of child abuse existed in Ireland."

I'm sorry, what? No guidelines? WHAT HAPPENED TO RELIGION PROVIDING MORALS?! Get off your arses and call the sodding police!

It's one rule for society, another rule for them.

There is one word for the Catholic church as far as I am concerned.... FRAUDS.

How many more priests have to be found to be paedophiles or permit other paedophiles to operate before something is done? The fact that he was only in a junior position at the time makes no difference, he knew a crime was being commited and did nothing, he should be in jail. It makes no difference if he was a priest or a plumber he knew what was going on.
It seems that a lot of these pervy priests are Irish, I suspect that this is because the Catholic church has such a big hold in that country they think they can get away with it.
Maybe if priests were allowed to marry they would not need to take out their frustrations on helpless children. (I don't care what they get up to with other consenting adults, but using children is simply obscene)
The whole of the church should hang their heads in shame, they disgust me! Angry

I think the problem is that many of the established politicos are afraid to take on anything that can even remotely appear as attacking religion. They count on those people for votes.

Priests weren't always required to be celibate. The Catholic church realized a long time ago that wives tend to become too involved with the direction of a man's life and his money. Thus, in order to keep control, they simply took wives out of the equation. Clearly it's not in the Bible that a man need be celibate to be a preacher in a church. Plus, wasn't it Jesus who was the great purveyor of marriage?

The whole system stinks of corruption.
