the latin folks around here LOVE brugal! they pour a little out (drink it), then fill the bottle up with fresh spices and let it sit for a while before drinking. i'm not a rum fan, but it looks pretty good that way.

I have yet to find a drink that I don't like.

Here in Oz it's 'Bundaberg' , rough-as-guts dark rum.

As a young poseur I drank Bacardi and coke. As a slightly more mature poseur,I drank brandy-lime-and -soda.

Quote:Bundaberg Rum is a dark rum produced in Bundaberg, Australia, often referred to as "Bundy". The Bundaberg Distilling Company owns its own cola-producing facility, which supplies the cola for its ready-to-drink Bundaberg Rum and Cola products.

Quote:Bundaberg Rum originated because the local sugar mills had a problem with what to do with the waste molasses after the sugar was extracted (it was heavy, difficult to transport and the costs of converting it to stock feed were rarely worth the effort). Sugar men first began to think of the profits that could be made from distilling. The vital meeting was held at the Royal Hotel on 1 August 1885, W M C Hickson served as the chairman, and other notables in attendance included all the big sugar mill owners of that time, W G Farquhar, F L Nott, S McDougall, T Penny, S H Bravo and A H Young, all to become the first directors of the Company. They started with a capital of 5,000 pounds.[1]

Bundaberg rum was first produced in 1888, production ceased from 1907 to 1914 and from 1936 to 1939 after fires, the second of which caused rum from the factory to spill into the nearby Burnett River.[2]

Quote:The Rum Rebellion of 1808 was the only successful armed takeover of government in Australia's history. The Governor of New South Wales, William Bligh, was deposed by the New South Wales Corps under the command of Major George Johnston, working closely with John Macarthur, on 26 January 1808, 20 years to the day after Arthur Phillip founded European settlement in Australia. Afterwards, the colony was ruled by the military, with the senior military officer stationed in Sydney acting as the Lieutenant-Governor of the colony until the arrival from Britain of Major-General Lachlan Macquarie as the new Governor at the beginning of 1810.

Oh, lucky old you.Do you have the great good fortune to be Irish or even a Kiwi?

Neither do most Aussies. When I was gossoon , we were taught Australian history apologetically, as it was obviously inferior to British history. So naturally, nobody, teachers or kids, was remotely interested.

I began to learn years after leaving school.
