Well the vast amount of positive response that this post got seems to indicate that there are quite a few people here (on the internet!) who do care.

You can either ignore the post (if you really don't think this thing shouldn't go on here), respond to it with a constructive comment (as most did), or be a moron and post some idiotic comment that was designed to upset someone.

As unpopular as it may be, I agree with LEDO.

Internet forums are not the place to host pity-parties. LEDO is not alone in his opinion on the matter. Everyone's problems are worst than other peoples. Should we all just get to listing our woes and take turns telling each other "Oh, poor baby, it's gonna be alright." ?

Pity-parties are pitiful. Save it for your shrink or life partner or best friend. If you want me to listen to your tales of woes then you either better be buying me alcohol or buying alcohol from me. If you ain't doing one of those two things (well, there is a third, but I'll keep it PG-13) then keep that waaa waaa waaa cry-baby crap in your pocket.

Yes, life's a bitch for some of us. A major bitch. What else is new? Suck it up. Do something about it. After you do what you can and if life is still a bitch then suck it up and live with it.

My life is not a bed of roses but if I felt an overwhelming need to piss-'n-moan about it to someone, the internet is not the place for it. Got a coupla quarters? Call someone who cares.

I don't know, I disagree with you. I've been a part of many internet forums where you become very close to the people and it seems only logical to share parts of your life with them. It isn't that you are looking for a pity party it's that you want to know somebody feels the same way you do. Not everyone has a real life support system, sometimes they just need to talk to another person about it. Just because you wouldn't tell your personal problems on an internet forums, doesn't make the person who does it stupid.

I can follow that. So fine, use a PM and share those parts of your life with them. Or send them an email. If you post your tales of woe on a public forum, it's, IMO, asking for a pity-party or asking to get flamed upon.

I never said it makes one stupid did I? Nope, sure didn't. It's just my opinion the cryin' 'n whinin' in search of sympathy needs not be shared in a public forum.

Yes some may be bothered by it, but others aren't and are there to listen.

And if what OP posted is 'crying' and or self-pity according to you and Ledo then isn't it worse to whine back at the whining? Isn't it kind of hypocritical? If you don't don't care for it, think it's "whining" and it's not being specifically addressed to you, I just wonder why you don't just ignore it?

And you two have freedom of speech here too of course. So as long as it's nothing 'uncalled for', something that's against the rules, then you're free to express it here. I just thought I'd use my freedom of speech in this post in response to you both

No sir! It was not designed to upset anyone. It was in response to the negative feedback poor ol' LEDO was enduring for saying what I was thinking. I ignored the whining and was reading along and just could not bear to watch LEDO get raked over the coals any longer for speaking his mind.

This is not a mental health forum,and people here for the most a part are not trained counselors.
Personally I find self pity really tedious. That's because often the person isn't willing to actually DO anything about his/her situation and because I don't know these people so really don't care that much.I don't conflate maudlin sentimentality and pity for caring,

Neither this forum nor the internet generally are communities. Internet friendships are NOT REAL, unless of course they lead to actually meeting a real person..


I've done a bit of internet dating.Without exception,the real person had little resemblance to the internet persona. In a couple of cases, had they been advertising a product,I could have sued for misrepresentation. Did I also lie? Absolutely. Everyone trying to get laid, courting or in love lies in some way.

Hmmm I must say I agree, talking about your problems on the internet with people who don't know you or can't do anything to help is even less efficient than escaping in fantasy novels...
Around here when you're in deep shit we say " you smoke or you don't : you'll die anyway..." puts things into perspective : get a grip! you won't get a second life, bitchy as the first may be!
