Understanding the bible
The bible remains the worlds greatest seller, yet how well is its contents understood?

Like any book, the bible has a beginning, a middle and an end. In the beginning God created, soon after that mankind rebelled (Gen 3), in the middle of the book Jesus comes from heaven as the promised Saviour for all who will trust in Him alone for Salvation. At the end He will return to judge the world and take back to heaven His true Church. This is the larger context that the bible must be read in.

In the Old Testament Israel were God's chosen people to show His Glory through to the other nations, Israel are the OT equivelant if you like of the Church. The advent of Jesus is foretold many times in the OT, so in reality the OT is always pointing towards the NT and the advent of Jesus Christ the Messiah. The bible is a meta narrative.

I would say the bible is not very well understood. Look how many different viewpoints Christian people and organizations have on what God says is the proper way to live your life, and the proper way to love and honor him.

As Christians our priority is to the Master and His Word first and foremost, that is what it means to be a disciple :-)

Big difference between "selling" and "reading."

It does make a fine theatrical prop, though.

The Bible can not truly be understood without the revelation of the Holy Spirit. That's why so many have trouble with the scriptures, they either read and get only a surface meaning from them,or the bring their own preconceived ideas into the reading of scripture and make those ideas fit the scriptures. Properly read one will allow the Holy Spirit to open up the word of God's truth and apply it to one's life. To many would rather make the scriptures fit their ideas and lifestyle.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Ah - the Argumentum ad Emperor's New Clothes, I see. Well played.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Like the Twilight books, the Bible is utter garbage.

I'm thinking that you would have to drink a LOT of holy spirit(preferably whiskey) before the bible started to make sense.
