Understanding the Bible/Christianity
November 21, 2015 at 9:07 pm
Ok here is a thread about studying the Bible from the Christians here.
Topic 1. The face of God.
For example, the Bible states:
O Lord God of hosts, restore us; Cause your face to shine upon us and we will be saved
Psalm 80:19
What his face? How does it shine?
What does it mean to seek his face? Psalm 105:4. And what does it have to do with God's strength? Psalm 105:4

The God character of the Bible was simply the series of men who ruled the dominant empire in the Middle East during ancient times. There's no celestial god of any kind in this solar system.

Does that not kill them? Or is that another contradiction that atheists have failed to "interpret" correctly?
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.

I don't know. I will see what Christians say about it. Perhaps, God's face is a connection of various levels and there are unseen levels of it beyond any human at the moment, but righteous humans will eventually get there depending when on their speed in the journey. This is because God himself is unseen and never can be seen, as such the various levels of "seeing his face", is such that there is always room in the unseen which is left in only God's knowledge. This is because God has no limit, is absolute, is the Greatest, such that he cannot be greater, and thus the connection to Him is of various levels.
In one sense, his face gives light to all things. In another sense, it's particular to believers who are truly illuminated by it and graced by it and guided by it. In another sense, there exists infinite levels of God's face, and no one can see it at all it's possible levels, because the journey is never ending towards God.
That said, there also room that "death" refers to annihilating our identity into the light of God. That no one can see God's face truly but that he must annihilate himself and kill himself in that sense. That is when you realize you are not your own, but you belong to God, such that he becomes the hearing by which you hear, the seeing by which you see, and tongue by which you speak.

I belong to no god but myself.

The God of the Bible is odd. Nobody can look upon him and live but Abraham actually engages him in a wrestling match, lol. Obviously, the different books had different authors with their own ideas. Good luck trying to reconcile all of them.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

The word "face" in the Hebrew is:פָּנִים pânîym, paw-neem'; plural (but always as singular) of an unused noun פָּנֶה pâneh; from H6437); the face (as the part that turns); used in a great variety of applications (literally and figuratively); also (with prepositional prefix) as a preposition (before, etc.):— accept, a-(be-) fore(-time), against, anger, × as (long as), at, battle, because (of), beseech, countenance, edge, employ, endure, enquire, face, favour, fear of, for, forefront(-part), form(-er time, -ward), from, front, heaviness, × him(-self), honourable, impudent, in, it, look(-eth) (-s), × me, meet, × more than, mouth, of, off, (of) old (time), × on, open, out of, over against, the partial, person, please, presence, propect, was purposed, by reason of, regard, right forth, serve, × shewbread, sight, state, straight, street, × thee, × them(-selves), through ( -out), till, time(-s) past, (un-) to(-ward), upon, upside ( down), with(-in, -stand), × ye, × you.
It is a catch all term that refers to be before 'God's presents'
to shine on :אוֹר ʼôwr, ore; a primitive root; to be (causative, make) luminous (literally and metaphorically):—× break of day, glorious, kindle, (be, en-, give, show) light (-en, -ened), set on fire, shine.
From it's primitive root, we can apply "glory" to Paw-neem. Meaning Psalm 80, is loosly asking to be allowed to stand before God in glory.

All you really need to understand is that the Bible was written by people who were assumed to be experts on God. Those people probably weren't experts, and made a shit ton of assumptions, and today you have people going out of their way to justify all the stupid shit they said, working their hardest to make them say something they never said to make them sound smarter than they were.

It's the sun. It goes back to the old sun worship, where people knew the sun gave warmth and light, so they worshiped it as a god. It also helps that a nearby religion had a more literal sun god Ra. God's face shines down from the sky like the sun.
