Why did God create the universe?
#1
Question
Why did God create the universe?
Pretty simple question that I've never gotten an answer to while I was a Christian. For what reason did God create the universe? Did he have a reason? Did he need to create the universe?
My ignore list

-- George Yorgo Veenhuyzen quoted by John W. Loftus in The End of Christianity (p. 103).

My guess is that God was masturbating and the universe is what shot out when he climaxed.
Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?

He had no toys to torture and oppress.

You have been given a window into His nature. After all apart of you was made in His image. So put yourself in a state of nothingness, and ask yourself would you remain there? if so how long before you decided to make a change well with in your ablity to do so?

I would assume it was due to boredom.

Yes, let's create people and watch them be miserable and kill each other! That would be fun!

You're thinking of God in temporal terms. You're also treating nothing like it's something. And from what I'm gathering you seem to be saying that God got lonely?

So... it was for entertainment? Explains a lot.

Since you claim god always was, it would then appear that he must have been fine with a state of nothingness for an infinite length of time. What was he doing immersed in nothing, I wonder, before he finally decided to put an end to it all and conjure up some free-will to torment.
