Or it's because of what the U.S has become. What's to miss? Think we got the better deal to be honest. Big Grin

4th of July is the day all Brits wipe off the sweat from their foreheads and go "thank fuck" with a huge wave of relief.

Interesting to hear that the American Revolution is hardly mentioned in the school curiculum. But then, when I was in school, we didn't learn much about English history. Other than Henry VIII I couldn't tell you much about British monarchs.

A few years ago we took a trip to Lexington and Concord to visit the places where the revolution started. At Concord there were a couple of graves where British soldiers are buried. The graves were well marked with English flags and treated with reverence. I was pleased to see that, although they were "the enemy", their final resting place is treated with respect.
Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?

LOL. Not so sure of that, but it makes for fun reading, Ace. I love the UK, but it hasn't been exactly a leader on a world scale since it gave up on kings with power. That said, perhaps that was the best thing that could happen, since you all have moved on in getting rid of poxes like religion and homophobia while the U.S. still pretends not to be imperialistic while spreading its fat ass cheeks on every Middle Eastern country whose politics it doesn't like.

The monarchy will fuck off at some point, we've executed them before, we'll do it again. Wink

Yeah, over here religion isn't a problem. It's a dying tradition that's become weaker and weaker as time goes on. If priests threaten anyone with hell here, they may end up arrested for being a pest or end up waking up in hospital.
I never actually knew about the whole 4th of July thing until I started talking to yanks online. It's never ever mentioned here. I can't help but forget about it even after I'm told.

You've got almost a millennium's worth of material to work with. How do you expect to get too much of it into an entire academic term?

Of course, here in the states it's taught as the colonists rising up against tyranny. What do they teach in UK schools? Are the colonists considered traitors? I'm curious to know how this bit of history is taught on the other side.

Really why should they be taught anything about it?

Well, maybe because it's the start of how America became the world power it is today.

From my viewpoint, that starts from WWII on.
