Yeah, only idiots are Christians. High-five! Maybe we can jerk each other off later!

Right, because there aren't any good historians who are Christian. Okay.

Quote:But such as it is, fascists purges just as much as communists.

Night of the long knives ring a bell?

True, the Nazis engaged in some violent political purges. But that doesn't show that "fascists purge just as much as communists".

Red herring. Whether or not Chris is a "make-believe god bum", and whether his "alleged recommendations" are "self-serving" has nothing to do with my argument.

That's all just a distraction from the fact that Minimalist hasn't given any supporting evidence. Is that what you atheists do now? Distract people so that you don't have to give evidence?

No one specified anything related to how often a group purges, asswipe. You made that up on your own.

What else are you making up?

Well, I think that 'purging' is more closely affiliated with Stalin's communism than with Hitler's Nazism. At least, I don't think that "purging" is obviously more affiliated with fascism than with communism.

But that's an ancillary discussion.

"Knifing", wasn't there something somewhat recently about not using violent political rhetoric, since it's responsible for setting off crazy people or something? Anyway.

Starting a new organization has a lot of cost--overhead, brand loss, etc. That's why companies have rebranding efforts instead of declaring bankruptcy and starting a new company altogether.

I didn't make up that quote. Chuck said it here.

I used the "find" function on my browser, strangely, the only post that cropped up when I entered the word "often" (at least on that page-our post numbers per page may differ)was your own (and those criticizing you for diverging).............

It's probably safe to say that in this instance, you and Chuck were discussing entirely different things that only shared a common subject -ie the frequency of purges (in your case) and the proclivity to purge (in Chucks case).

Granted. That's what I fucking get for not obsessively reading preceding posts as close as I should.

While Rhythm (why is it so hard to type that word?!?) has brought up an interesting point, I believe I am incorrect and hence retract my statement.

Showing that the Nazis had a proclivity to purge (which apparently didn't result in more frequent purges) still doesn't show that fascists generally have a greater proclivity to purge than communists.

Nor would showing that communist governments have purged more often definitevely show that it had anything to do with communism as opposed to the particular "communists" doing the purging.
(and really, you'd be hard pressed to show me communism in action, wouldn't you, what we're really talking about here are dictators who prefered to spin different propaganda, aren't we?)

You might also be ignoring the little tidbit wherein the Nazi Party was eradicated. Maybe we should have given them 60 or 70 years to work with? I'm sure they would have been fantastic public officials, prone to peaceful resolution of ideological conflicts with well reasoned arguments and applied tolerance.

Those "communists" though.........fuckin bastards.

True, it wouldn't show that "purging" is inherent to communism. But it might be good reason to think that "purging" is more closely associated with communism (or communist regimes) than with fascism (or fascist regimes).

That only changes the unit of "frequency" or "proclivity" being applied. It doesn't change my argument--it just changes how you'd need to measure 'frequency' or 'proclivity', not what the result of the findings could possibly show.

What argument, that:

"Well, the people famous for "purging" were the Communists (Stalin), not the fascists."

From where I stand they both seem equally famous. Lets not forget here that jews also stood opposed to the ideology of their (The Nazi's) party and were dealt with in a manner not entirely dissimilar to the manner in which any dissident (whether real or perceived) of any oppressive totalitarian regime has been dealt with -historically speaking.

That fascists have purged and communists (it really grates me that you even think this term applies btw) have purged isn't something we disagree about. That one group is more famous than the other is. Honestly, I cannot personally feel that this is even an issue of two separate types of ideologies and their relative levels of savagery, they seem very much the same to me. Can you show me a communist purge?

I should have been more careful in my argument. I would restate it as something like:

"The people most closely associated with 'purging' were the Communists (under Stalin), not the Nazis."

But, like I said, that's an ancillary argument. I actually expected more people here to push back against the notion that communism executed the various purges.
