How do you folks in the UK feel about Royalty?

I'm a Northern Irish "Catholic", so I was raised to absolutely hate the royal family. However, I don't. I actually don't know a hell of a lot about them, but I believe most of them do quite a lot of charity work (The Prince's trust, for instance). Whether the amount they raise offsets the money they earn, again, I have no idea.

It's nice that they do charity work. However, if I didn't have to go to work every day, was fabulously wealthy and had servants to attend to my every need, I would also do a lot of charity work.

Granted, but I think there is a common argument that their status is a huge draw for a lot of the donations that their charities receive. Monarchy or no monarchy, I really don't care. If it were proved that the good they do outweighs what they take back, they could continue waving until they get carpal tunnel, for all I care.

Why?

Because the military is a tough lifestyle. I'm guessing the royals who serve don't have to. They could do nothing but at least they're performing in a real job.

Not to mention it's doubtful if some have even met the minimum criteria for officer entry.

I must agree with you here. Do the Royals who serve have to meet the same criteria as anyone else who wants to be an officer? I'm sure no one would have the nerve to bounce them out of OCS. And I can't imagine a Royal serving as an enlisted man.
