Microsoft decided to pull this add, I wonder why. (pretty graphic warning)

Hehe, true. Though when my friends and I first heard about the MS decision, we were trying to think about how we could survive on only 3 applications at a single time. I use so many of them Big Grin

I mean, even with all the MS-bashing put aside...3 application limit? Seriously? Wasn't there a single person who stood up and told the guy who suggested it that it was the worst idea ever?

Yeah it's a stupid idea (really fucking dumb) but saying it in a thread that was, in my opinion, mainly about adverts was seriously off-topic ... but, as you correctly say elsewhere, they all do that.

OTOH we mods are supposed to stop that happening aren't we?

As for Adrians link, gotta read more. MS offered a cheap lamer version of the OS with the 3 app limit. The standard OS does not have this but, the cheapout version you have the option of using does.

Want a full OS, get the full OS instead of what is basically a Windows 7 demo.

The implication is that TV commercials will advertise low cost PCs with this basic OS. People who are cheap are going to get what they pay for and people who don't know what they are doing are going to find themselves having to pay the store to install the full version of W7 on their machines.

So I disagree that this is some horrible decision by MS, marketing wise it's bloody brilliant. It's designed for netbooks, already the cheapout option and now they have a limited version of the OS to put on the cheap PCs, anyone who wants more simply has to get it. Or buy a PC that isn't 5 years old to start with.

What I will agree on, and this is why I personally don't like. Despite the advantages multiple versions of one OS is a pain in the arse. I will never be affected because I know what I'm doing and am even going to university for a technology degree but, people who don't know how to use computers have one more thing that is going to cause confusion and make them need to hire me to make their computer work how they want it too. East example, parent wants an affordable PC for his kid, sees one on TV that sounds great and is very affordable, they don't realise that the full OS will cost them extra and buy the starter kit for their kid.

Now I spent way too mant words on that but, hey, 3AM does that. Back on topic sorry for going off on a tangent.

I actually liked the commercial, I mean it's about time they added that feature to IE but, there was humor there. Unfortunately some people lack the stomach to handle that kind of humor. Of course, I just erase my history every night reguardless. It takes up space and it's nobodies business what sites I visit in general, pr0n or otherwise.

Also that first banned xbox ad is awesome.

Given the option between a watered down version of windows 7 and the newly announced Google Chrome OS (both seem to be going for the same market), I'm going for chrome.

I believe any potential this slim win 7 had has just been stolen.

Tbh the Google OS sounds kinda weak. I can see where it's uses will lie just, none of them really apply to me. However I must agree that I would rather use it than an app-limited version of Windows. I just don't see it, based on what Google had said about it, really being all that usefull to me.

Just to make sure everyone is clear, Microsoft are not planning on actually releasing and app-limited version. Not sure if I made that clear in my original post, but it was an idea they had, it got as far as announcing it before it was shot down by someone (good job to them...better late than never!). As far as we all know, there are no app-limiting features of any of the Windows products.

As for the Google OS, I can see it being very useful for netbooks that have very good internet hardware but not so good processing / harddrives (as I understand it, all the processing is done by a Google supercomputer and is simply streamed to the client). Neat idea, and it will definitely be an advantage to people who need fast processing without the extra baggage weight Big Grin

Nice to have an alternative POV Demonaura but I still think (for once, LOL) that Adrian is right and that it's a fairly bad idea but then I'm a computer geek .. the whole point of a computer is no limits.
