I don't get the whole celebrity culture within online atheism. Someone's views are no more (or less) worthwhile, simply because they've climbed some greasy pole. It's one the aspects of people like Greta Christina, who (more than once) refer to themselves as atheistic "leaders". Oh, really? There was a vote? I've been an atheist my whole life and I've never needed (nor wanted) someone as any kind of leader of that viewpoint. I was just curious...
I don't see Matt as a leader... just as someone who can express his ideas about atheism really well.... and he likes to hear himself talk
BTW, who the heck is this Greta chick?
Can you imagine what would happen if the pope was registered on CF, and was an active poster?

edit: Oh shit - forgot the no nudity rule.
Here's a non-nude version. Google "Greta Christina" to see the image I removed (if you're brave enough). She has a blog on FreethoughtBlogs.

Got it!
But my question was more: who is this woman to claim to be some atheist leader?
I've been an atheist for longer than Matt, and probably longer than this Greta.... I should be their leader!
But, I don't care for leadership.... I don't see a reason for a leader of atheists to exist.

I support humanism, not an exclusionary brand of it. So no, I don't.

If they do, they do so in silence.

Personally, I don't regard these people as leaders so much as spokesmen (the use of which term probably instantly disqualifies me from the atheism + movement). Whether it's the Four Horsemen or prominent Youtube atheists, they give a voice to what would otherwise be, if not exactly silent, then a considerably less vocal majority; not to mention producing material to maintain public awareness of the majority. You don't need to agree lockstep with everything these people say and do, in fact the highest tribute we could pay them is not to agree with them if such disagreement is warranted.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

You could always ask them over at their forum, however, since you are male, you might not get much of a response until you admit how much of a monster you are.

or better put, what to do with le, la, der, die, das, el, la? Hey! Extend that to all Latin descendant languages, such as Portuguese, Italian and Romanian. And I bet other non-latin languages also have this gender complexity in them.
I laugh my ass off whenever I hear someone from northern Europe trying to speak portuguese!! Some are really good, but they manage to keep mixing up the genders of nouns (all nouns have a gender around here).
Stimbo, "spokespersons". Yes, I agree that, most of the times, they do represent the points of view of atheists to the rest of the world (although I'm aware that they only represent their own points of view... they just happen to coincide with a large swath of atheists... I think).
Back to A+.... I've read the "what is Atheism+" thread over at their forum, but I still don't get what that is.... I might be retarded, though!
