My introduction to the catastrophe that is deviantart.

My introduction to the catastrophe that is deviantart.
Speaking of fanfiction, has anyone here read Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality? Honestly, there are some parts of that I like more than the original series.

Also: I remember picking up a "Dresden Fillies" fanfic (Dresden Files/My Little Pony crossover) and enjoying that much more than the actual Dresden Files book series (which I started reading because I enjoyed this fanfic). There are so many "look at me gritting my teeth! I'm totally a hard-boiled character!" passages in the original books that transferring the character into a land of candy-colored ponies is just... perfect. It completes the character. Being a detective in Chicago who is secretly a wizard wasn't enough: he has to be a detective in Chicago who is secretly a wizard and even more secretly a brony.

That being said, I was willing to read all the way through Atlas Shrugged. And also fandom goggles. I'm as picky as a goat here.

...this sounds ominously negative...

It's going to take me a day to find it - it came up somehow in one of the "most recent" feeds, and there are several essays like it - I may post one of those just to give people insight into what I think is a strange phenom, but meanwhile I'll try to find the exact one I read.

It really is the other end of the spectrum, love it.

Just remember that it gets a lot worse from there; in one chapter Ronan has sex with his newborn daughter (who admittedly, grew to be identical to her mother in the space of less than a day), and in another, he mutilates his main girlfriend's vagina as punishment for her cheating on him, has sex with the wound, and the genitals grow back. Yeah. It's that stupid.

No offense, it's strange to me. Then again, I like BDSM. I'm not knockin' it, just stating my opinion.

All hail google:

This is the one I was going to post if I couldn't find the first:

With you there summer, deviantart has a great range of user created image content, I find it very useful.

I didn't even know they had a section where you could write stories, I just use it to find pictures.

There are thousands of excellent users on that site - poets, artists, and writers alike. The problem is learning how to sift through the shit.

Sorry, I just think everyone might of missed what Rev here put. Someone wrote themselves into their own story having sex with his own daughter and a girlfriends wound to punish cheating.

Am I the only one absolutely fascinated by the batshit craziness here? I mean, thats it. I'm hooked. I want to read everything hes written then submit it to psycho-analysts for further study.

Oh yeah, I'm not disputing that but what I'm saying is I think true ignorance is as rare as true genius. They are two oppisite sides of the spectrum that should both be cherished and I'd say deviantart displays both with many shades of average inbetween.
Infact I think in many ways finding a true moron is even harder than finding a true intellectual. Fools are rarely as forthcoming with gems of the truly ridiculous as the wise are with gems of true insight but when they do it paralyses you. It renders you speechless, you need to take a moment to comprehend on just how many levels what has been shared is wrong. Its like being exposed to a tiny slither of stupidity so pure and unadulterated that it overwhelms you. The resulting emotions can vary from outrage, incredulousness right down to plain bemusement. In some ways a truly awful literary piece is just as much of a treasure as a truly wonderful literary piece. The former is rarely appreciated as such and I think the "One Page" series that was revealed by another on this forum really does illustrate this perfectly.
There is a twisted reflection of genius behind it that cannot be ignored.

Example;

Now, the person who created that knows how stupid that is. I'd say he studied and researched on just how many levels the most awful of sci-fi literature displays its complete cringe making worthlessness. He took the funniest of that and made one page of something you could believe a horrible writer unleashing upon the world.
That ontop of the fact hes fooled alot of the people who saw this its the page of a real book, I mean. Its brilliant. Its evil genius.
