How do you go from "I don't believe people are stupid", to talking about rocket scientists?

The same way you brought Newton into it:
Quote:And yes, I believe that. Newton wasn't an atheist, and I have nothing on him in terms of IQ.

A rocket scientist was an arbitrary "high IQ" career that I chose...

Quote:My point is that you shouldn't be in disbelief that creationists exist. The Abrahamic faiths were forced onto people for centuries on end, and for the longest time, nothing could be done about it. It's no surprise that supporters of these religions still exist, nor is it surprising that they are still so dogmatic. The Abrahamic faiths are a scourge that have collectively raped Germanic, Greek, Slavic, Persian, and many other ethnic groups alike.

In western society, you're quite free to think what you want most of the time. These people choose to believe in the Bible literally, despite the problem I see as outlined above. I want to know why, and I'm confident it's not because they're "stupid".

I already told you why.
That Abrahamic filth has been injected into our culture's bloodstream, and it is a part of the societal organism as a whole. People believe in it, because it is still being passed down to them generation, by generation. They take reality at face value, because it is easy and natural to do so. However, we are seeing a decline, because there are no more institutions with the absolute power to force Christianity onto the asses, all while our lives are becoming more dependent upon science, and therefore naturalism.

However, you're kind of wrong on your theory. Low intelligence is associated with shallow thinking. There have been plenty of studies on giftedness; a stark majority of these individuals have better mental faculties, and so are able to apply more complare not cookie cutter theists--they are usually anything but. One reason for this is because with giftedness comes better existential awareness. Low IQ individuals, however, have a harder time seeing big picture (because they do not make the necessary connections), and they have a lower tolerance for cognitive dissonance. Therefore, many of them tend to be cookie cutter theists.

In this day and age, were everyone gifted (IQ of 129+), there would be a lot less sheep. Make no mistake. There is an association between not asking the big questions and low intelligence.

When in groups, the IQ of the group is as high as the lowest IQ'd individual of that group.
So, yes, people are stupid.
While individuals can be quite intelligent, if they enter a group, they become as part of a stupid collective.

I think you guys are too caught up in the smart/dumb side of things which is really just a red herring.

My OP is really directed more to those that sincerely believe that experimentation with "GOD"'s natural world yields results that contradict the very same natural world that "GOD" has set out to describe in Gen 1.

Did he describe it there, then?
Here I was thinking it was just some traditional story that had been passed orally through the generations and eventually got put in a more permanent form.

You don't have to be like that to be a supporter of an Abrahamic religion. Nowhere does it say that the bible has to be taken literally.

I'm not sure what your point is. Yes, at one time they were. Even if they are today, I was giving you an example of a member of an Abrahamic faith, a priest, no less, who was not a creationist. Creationism is not a requirement of Christianity anymore. When I was a believer I did not believe in creationism (although I did not acknowledge that this meant the bible was failliable). Even then, there are some theories (albiet farfetched ones) that allow the account in genesis to be reconciled with an old earth and evolution.
