Well, there is a very real and very significant difference between the candidates, but because both of them have to appeal to the same undecided, moderate voters, both of them have to rush to the polical middle to win their votes. You want to see the real difference between candidates, compare Obama when he was running for Democratic nomination to Romney when he was running for Republican nomination. The closer you get to the general election, the more alike they look.
