The USA is now some 16 trillion dollars in federal debt. But who tells you this lie? The USA does. Here's the truth. The FEDERAL government alone in the USA has this much debt:

The STATE governments in the USA combined have approximately this much debt:

Now I'm assuming that figure includes Local government debt! So all up you idiots in the USA owe:

Total public debt.
Maybe you don't think the debt is so bad. After all don't other countries like Japan have higher debt-to-gdp ratios? Well yes they do, but their governments are structured differently to the USA. In the USA State revenue is high and federal revenue is low. The total REVENUE for the Federal government is $2.45 trillion.
Let's crunch those numbers so you can understand what I mean by this. The USA's Federal revenue (not state revenue) is $2.45 trillion and equals about 15.7% of GDP. Australia's federal revenue approx $376.1 Billion represents about 24.0% of GDP.
You are now in the position, FYI, that if you cut all discretionary spending in the USA and only budgeted for mandatory spending (including the interest on your debt) you would still have a deficient budget. Congratulations, you idiots.

Yep, you have to give tax cuts to GE and EXXON and golden parachutes to CEOS, and you have to allow people who have no business owning military style weapons to own them, and you have to condemn people for making choices about their own vaginas, otherwise you are a Stalin loving commie.

I don't understand the liberal thinking here. You were opposed to the bush tax cuts. The fiscal cliff gets rid of them. Now you are calling republicans evil for pushing us over the fiscal cliff, which will get rid of the bush tax cuts. Do you guys hear yourselves?

It's called timing, Capn. Certain things work well at certain times. If the tax cuts go out, it will come at the cost of many low-middle earning americans who are the real spenders in the country and cannot afford higher taxes right now. If their spending power is lowered, revenues are lowered, it's self defeating. There are times where taxes can be raised with little effect on peoples spending habits.
The reason there is no agreement is because the Democrats only want a tax rise on the wealthiest - who CAN afford it. The Republicans think that if there is going to be a tax rise, more people(lower earners) should get it too, but at the moment it doesn't make sense because it'll lower revenues and the debt will rise further.

I think that is all shit. Everyone is America could live with less money. We can't run an economy infinitely with the idea that we need to just spend and spend and spend. If we don't do something about our deficit, we are going to go over a much larger cliff in the future. Also the middle class in this country are ridiculously wealthy compared to 90% of the world. The idea that they can't afford this is absurd.

You do realize there's much more to the fiscal cliff than the Bush Taxs Cuts., don't you? Everyone's taxes will go up, and your paycheck will be smaller. For those reasons we don't want to get rid of the Bush Tax Cuts by going over the cliff.

I can live with a smaller paycheck. So can everyone in America. We don't need this ridiculous consumer society, we need to get out of debt. You guys realize that you are supporting the policies of George Bush here, right?
