Tolerance

Tolerance
It's a word I don't really like. I mean, there are 7 billion individuals, so what is there to tolerate? Whether you accept or reject that fact, it still happens.

But with that in mind, surely even the most tolerant of us would actually tolerate the intolerant. Indeed, it is discrimination to counter-discriminate.

So I do often wonder about atheism, and the terminology with regards to how we discuss this...

It's a personal experience at the end of the day, this existence. How are you seriously gonna tell another person what personal experience is right or wrong?

Agreed!

Why be tolerant with the intolerant.

I would never give a fashist, racist or antisemite the same room and respect to express him or herself in a democratic arena.
Certainly not with my peoples history.

We should be tolerant to everyone! Except to non-tolerant people, damn them to hell!

I believe many people confuse tolerance with acceptance, tolerance just means you tolerant somebody's views or lifestyle. It does not mean you approve of it, which acceptance means.

To give an example; if I were a bible believing Christian. I would be merely tolerant of those who held religious views which were not those that I held. However in no way I would approve of their views, which acceptance would entail.

In my opinion, the only thing we should be intolerant towards is active intolerance. Passive intolerance should simply be ignored. Let people believe what they want with regards to race, gender, religion or whatever. You needn't agree with, and you needn't associate with them, but if they're backwards views are causing you know harm, let them believe it without forcing them to pretend they don't have those feelings.
