Russia and China said on Friday they would oppose any foreign military intervention in North Korea

Quote:The two countries' foreign ministers condemned last week's test but said any action against North Korea had to be agreed at the United Nations, where Russia and China have the right of veto as permanent members of the Security Council.
"We are against the carrying out of a nuclear test in North Korea," Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi told a joint news conference after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow.
"The U.N. Security Council should give an adequate response ... but the action should be directed towards peace on the Korean peninsula," he said.
Lavrov said China and Russia had agreed that it was "vitally important not to ... allow the situation to be used as a pretext for military intervention."
North Korea's latest test, its third since 2006, prompted warnings from Washington and others that more sanctions would be imposed on the isolated state.

There seems to be a perceived weakness in the Obama administration by the Chinese and the Russians and they're testing our military readiness, ( especially in light of the looming March 1rst $500 billion in defense budget cuts)...
The Chinese have increased their military budget by a little over 11%...

Russian bombers approach Guam...

Quote:Since Vladimir Putin reclaimed the Russian presidency, U.S. officials said the number of such flights in the vicinity of the Aleutian Islands and Alaska have increased, but encounters with U.S. aircraft have remained “generally very professional.”
The two Russian Bear bombers flew near Guam at about the same time President Barack Obama delivered his State of the Union message. Military officials refused to speculate about the timing.
NATO warns allies against damaging defense spending cuts...

Quote:"If defence cuts continue, it will have a negative impact on our ability to provide effective defence and protection of our populations," Rasmussen told reporters at the start of a NATO defence ministers' meeting.
He appealed to allies, many of which have slashed defence spending in response to the economic crisis, to stop defence cuts, use their resources more efficiently by working together, and to increase defence spending once their economies recover.

I'd personally be happier with no world police, is it to much to ask that the nations of the world handle their own shit? Say some batshit faction from Douchebagistan starts bombing cafes...is it too much to ask that a Douchebagistani sniper rifle be the solution?

I have an awful feeling that North Korea is going to keep pissing China and Russia off to the point where they go apeshit. This whole "do not militarily intervene", "The UN has to agree", and "peace on the peninsula" is not very convincing.

Yeah, that would be a welcome change...it's just too bad that the nations of the world aren't handling their own issues without dragging others into the mix.
