Fundamentalism does exist about anything, e.g. fundamentalist trekkies. I am an atheist because up to this moment I find no reason to believe in god(s), no evidence. and until such evidence is provided, i stay the way I am.
Well take a look at atheism+, that gives some perspective.

"science" does not prove or disprove anything. It is a process of "data" collection and predictions. The process does not disprove anything. The "science" does not claim anything.
Claiming "there is no god" is not from science ladies. In fact, any real scientist that understands what "science" is, would actually lean toward "agnostic. What a scientist would, and can, claim is that certain reported traits of god have no data to support the claim.
but OK, I understand one religion twisting facts to support personal opinions or, in this case, an atheist religion. But it is one reason I won't join the "hitchins" type atheist. He died, let's move on to coexistence.

The scientific method is a process of developing hypothesis, collecting data... Etc. it strives to prove what exists. But seldom can prove what does not because you cannot collect all data about all things. It is intended to identify what is real from all that can be imagined, and works extremely well, look around you, what we have created from scientifically proved stuff. But perhaps one of the most sought after proofs... God exists, has been attempted for.. Thousands of years and with out the resultant collection of a single legitimate face confirming existence... Not one! If I was a betting man, I'd put my money on does not exist... Oh that's right I staked my afterlife. JD

I try not to be rude but I have absolutely no respect/understanding towards religion. I think it is the plague of modern society, an out of control disease . I'm not one who likes to keep his opinion to himself, I openly hate on religion all the time. I feel feel like for every religious person I get to questions his/her beliefs I helped the progression of mankind one tiny but but worthwhile step.

I happen to know of some people I have as friends on FB that don't say anything because they know that they have no reason to believe. They just accepted a religion as part of their inheritance. If they say something they will come off as stupid. I try not to push it, but there are days that religion nags a little too much for my comfort and I have to let out all the fatigue in red, hot, anger posts. I keep getting all these "like of you believe in Jesus, keep scrolling if you want to die" posters all over the place and it's just so annoying. I want to die. (keeps scrolling)
Pointing around: "Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, you're cool, fuck you, I'm out!"

Unfortunately Dawkins & co. are still leading that rally. I think Hitchens actually had more awareness of co-existence than him, even if he didn't admit so in the non-compassionate arguments.

I understand, it is a natural human reaction. But I think people need to be aware of the reaction that hate causes as well. It leads to more separation and fundamentalism as opposed to positive reinforcement and acceptance.
I can't help but realise the majority of atheists I have encountered enter arguments to win arguments for their own personal satisfaction. It generally has little to do with reaching an objective universal perspective. A scientist enters a debate to learn something new - they want to understand what they do not perceive.

I have a standing rule with religious people: they don't preach to me, I don't preach to them. Usually, we get along with it, but once in a while someone has to come up and tell me the good news about Jesus and I'm forced to tell them about the parts of the Bible they never learned in Sunday school.
Christianity is the only religion I know well enough to be able to say it's wrong, and I'm leaning towards the same with Islam due to the fact that the part of the world where Islam is its strongest is an angry, stone age hell-hole. When it comes to Hinduism, Wicca or whatever other beliefs there are, I simply don't know enough to say either they're absolutely right or absolutely wrong.
I've even tried to do what I can to help my boyfriend find his own path since he feels abandoned by the homophobic church he was raised with. Thing is, it would be damn easy or me to try to make him atheist, but I'm more interested with him being able to give an intelligent answer when people ask what he believes than I am with exactly what it is that he believes.
