Not Harsh Enough

I'm just saying they should at least get another shot. But these actions should follow them every step of the way.

RE: Not Harsh Enough
They're going to get another shot at life - they're not going away for the rest of their years. But one year isn't enough, I hope they psyche eval the fuck out of them.

People say a lot that teens have no impulse control, and while I respect the fact that some of you have kids and I don't, I was one of those kids about a decade ago, and my memory isn't THAT bad. I distinctly remember being able to tell right from wrong in most cases. Again, this wasn't a case of "oops, we drank too much and had sex and I'm not clear on consent." This was WAY worse. This goes beyond impulse control into the need to torture someone.

At 16 and 17, there could be emerging signs of psychosis. They should be evaluated. But if this were two adults who were declared mentally ill, I'd want to give them the chance to be treated and see if they are better suited for society. There are some people who are not fit to reenter society, but I think it's too soon to call for these guys.

No one argued that yet - just that the sentence wasn't harsh enough.

I am of the opinion that some teens should be tried as adults.

It's not TX - it's OH. Same difference in some areas. TX has its own rape problems.

I know. I realized my mistake and edited my post. Sorry about that.

RE: Not Harsh Enough
Noted.

Part of the reason I'm outraged is that date rape and alcohol and rape and this sort of behavior is something that should and does come up in proper "health" or "sex ed" classes in high school - before this age. So these kids don't have an excuse of "not knowing better"...unless they don't have those classes, and I could conceive of them never understanding that sexually torturing a woman was criminal, depending on the sort of theistic parent they had.

Yeah, I'm just laying that out there. For some reason secular parents seem to be a good deal better about the sex talk and the "no rapey" thingy. I wonder if that's because most secularism isn't about demeaning all but the penis.

I wonder if that is because society makes excuses for them not having "control?" The vast majority of kids are not out there committing violent crimes. How ever do they manage it?

I don't feel sorry for those boys at all. There had to be a time when someone thought: "Two guys against an underage girl.. Shall we put our fingers in her?", why not act on that impulse instead?
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura
