I do not understand the appeal of those Chinese Character tattoos. Can you imagine Chinese people having tattoos spelling the English word for water on their bodies? That is probably how Chinese Character tattoos on us appear to the Chinese.

I heard somewhere that the Japanese frequently write things in English because we have more calligraphic options. No idea about tattoos. On the other hand, their art (not their writing specifically) would make me mostly say "who wants words on my body" if I were more into that sort of thing. It's beautiful.
