Cool Things That Make You Happy

Cool things that make me happy:
Slight bit of background: I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil in my hands (around 3 or 4 years old) but we were poor and my mother had no appreciation at all for my art. She'd call it junk, a waste of paper, etc. My older sister, thankfully, gave me enough encouragement that I never gave it up. To this day, it's a real effort to pass by an art supply store without buying pens and pencils and paper and rulers and anything else related to drawing. I've got stacks of paper, dozens of sketch pads, stacks of comic pages, dozens of pencils and pens and markers and rulers and templates and so on. These are the cool things that make me happy; having the tools to do the kind of work that never feels like work:
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
-Stephen Jay Gould
A hawk that has become habituated to people to the extent that it comes right up to a friend's balcony:
'The difference between a Miracle and a Fact is exactly the difference between a mermaid and seal. It could not be expressed better.'
-- Samuel "Mark Twain" Clemens "I think that in the discussion of natural problems we ought to begin not with the scriptures, but with experiments, demonstrations, and observations". - Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) "In short, Meyer has shown that his first disastrous book was not a fluke: he is capable of going into any field in which he has no training or research experience and botching it just as badly as he did molecular biology. As I've written before, if you are a complete amateur and don't understand a subject, don't demonstrate the Dunning-Kruger effect by writing a book about it and proving your ignorance to everyone else! " - Dr. Donald Prothero
A damn lot of things. Most probably for the erea 69, but here are a few things:
I also get a smile (but also a little bit sad) on my face when I see pictures of the "hogs" I used to have:

An excellent beer.
A dark starlit night. A simple meal, expertly prepared. The unconditional love you can only get from a dog.
Slingshotting underwear at my boyfriend.

I couldn't help sharing this on my Facebook
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite. Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment. Quote:Some people deserve hell. I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong. |
