You have a link? That is not what I've read. From what I understand:

1. No evidence for an Exodus/enslavement in Egypt. Most scholars don't think it happened.
2. Jews were already in Canaan and were just another tribe there.

But, yes that seems to be the scholarly consensus these days.

No, that is not the consensus at all. The consensus is that the Jews may have come from Egypt.

You are entitled to your opinion....stupid and uninformed as it is.

Wait...you take the Exodus literally?[1]

ROFLOL

What evidence do you have that the Jews may have come from Egypt?

NOTE:

1. This is in reference to archangle's posts in the "God's God" thread, where s/he rejects the notion of interpreting the Bible (specifically texts in Exodus and Deuteronomy) literally.

It's literal when they want it to be literal and symbolic when they want it to be symbolic, LPS. It is part of the mental gymnastics that every jesus freak has to go through to make some sense out of the utter nonsense they insist is "true."

what is your proof?

but…but….Francesca says those things never happened and she was there!...er...I mean...and she has a Ph.D. and even though she’s an atheist she’s completely neutral on the matter!! How did you miss that? Tongue

It seems to surprise you that a girl that knows facts that contradicted the bible is an atheist.

You really are deep in denial aren't you.

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

Tinkety Tonk and down with the Nazis.

hey man, just because you a stupid asshole that skews facts to support your take on a atheism religion doesn't mean I have to. Scholars say there is little evidence that the event took place. They do not say it didn't take place. You're a loud mouth punk atheist. Get science right or don't use it.

yeah, I reject your take on the bible. You have some convoluted logic that leads you to have to take the bible literally. I don't. Most Jews don't use the torah literally. The Old T. And the early church only assembled the bible from a group of writing back then. Your logic for a literal bible just doesn't have merit.

And you are claiming that I am the one that is unreasonable.

I thought you said 'they did not come from Egypt". As in they had certian proof. That claim can't made made. Them claiming little evidence of that event, like the one in the hieroglyphs is true enough. yes, they is no reason that they couldn't have been a another tribe.

RE: The Bible Is Mostly Not Factual
So in my layman's understanding, is this correct re: the current scholarly consensus:

1. There is no evidence the Exodus as described in the Bible occurred.
2. The Jews emerged out of the pre-existing peoples of Canaan.
3. Moses, Joshua and possibly David/Solomon are fictional characters. (I've read there is some support that David/Solomon existed.)
4. Abraham was a fictional character.
5. The Jews were not enslaved or really even existed in Egypt during the alleged time of the Exodus.

Is there a link somewhere that lays out the currently accepted consensus scholarly position with details and supporting evidence? This topic comes up occasionally, I'd like to be able to refer back to it.
