Violent video games increase aggression.

Funny, after I beat hookers to death with dildos in GTA, I don't feel any urge to do so IRL.

I'm pretty much the same. You should see how mad I get when playing Mario Kart. I reach unhealthy levels of anger.

Mario Kart? Sure. Even worse is Mario Party.. That shit breaks friendships and relationships! '-_-
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Some studies say than play to violent video games reduce the risk to be violent.
The video games are present since 70's , 80's therefore this is maybe a little short to do these studies.

The study don't say :
1.The age of people.
2.Social class.
3.Theirs psychological profile.
etc...

My apologies...late to the party

I'm not a gamer but can understand that frustration will cause higher rates of aggression....... I give you the middle east

So on this topic can one say that the frustration from gaming leads to higher levels of aggression? Or is it an release of aggression that is being monitored?

Speaking about release and aggression, I think gamers don't even need to play in order to become irate, just look at e.g. all the Valve fans who have been waiting for ages for the Half-Life 3 release Big Grin

eh... lol...

Yeah.. in my day (excuse the quasi-old man statement lol..) I used to play Doom I and II, Street Fighter II, etc. I'm sure many others of my age did also. Yet I was never "excessively violent". Most in my group who were did it for kicks, or maybe even now (looking in retrospect) maybe were borderline sociopathic, who knows? That's distinct from video games' influence though.

I don't get why "scientists" seek to create these studies. Seems to me they're pushing some kind of ideological agenda.

I think it is more of Statisticians making the claim.

If it weren't for Fifa and one other game (Top spin 4) Big Grin I wouldn't be having a PS3 in the first place, and I get very very aggressive playing them.

I've played BioShock. It doesn't make me want to shoot up with chemicals that give me super powers. It did however give me a new appreciation for Art Deco and 40s music.
Luke: You don't believe in the Force, do you?

Han Solo: Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen *anything* to make me believe that there's one all-powerful Force controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls *my* destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.
