Violent video games increase aggression.

Violent video games increase aggression.
A new study suggests a dose-response relationship among playing violent video games and aggressive and hostile behavior, with negative effects accumulating over time.

Investigators discovered people who played a violent video game for three consecutive days showed increases in aggressive behavior and hostile expectations each day they played. They also found that those who played nonviolent games showed no meaningful changes in aggression or hostile expectations over that period.

I would be angry too if I had to play video games for three days straight.

The people that played non-violent video games reacted differently though.

I played Pac-Man in the '80's, and somehow it didn't cause me to run around in dark rooms listening to electronic music, eating little white pills that made me see multicolored spirits. Wink

ROFLOL Seems to work in reverse for me. I've actually banned myself from ever buying another Fifa football game after breaking 3 controllers playing it over a month. I also go absolutely nuts when I fuck up on a Tiger Wood's game.

Huh.. I don't play that many aggressive games (though almost all I play do contain some kind of violence). For me it's therapeutic, I get to grind and kill in game so that I don't feel the need to do it IRL. I cannot read through the study atm, but does it take into consideration those with an inclination towards aggression are violent already before even playing and that those kind of games attract a certain clientele?
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

I guess this follows on the trend of how media turns us into mindless killing machines. I'm sure there was a time when "lurid books and stories" were the downfall of civilization, soon followed by cartoons, comics, rock music, TV, heavy metal music, TV, music videos, TV, porn magazines, TV, violent movies, TV, and TV.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
