We're supposed to elect people to represent us, but a lot of the time these people are swayed from our interests by lobbyists and things of that sort. Also, when talking about the Presidential election, does voting really matter? It does...if you live in a swing state, or a state that's known to flip flop. Living in New York, my vote is completely useless. We're blue no matter what. In 2012 I voted for Gary Johnson just for the hell of it.

So, would I say the people are responsible? I think it's a bit deeper than a "yes or no" question, but my short answer would be, "not really."
