Argument from evil, restated
RE: Argument from evil, restated

What makes the best life for millions of infants is a short, hungry, miserable existence which ends in the prolonged misery of either disease or starvation.

Quote:He gave you the free will to reject His will, you are not being forced into anything to do with God.

A flawless analogy for how free will works in Christianity: A rapist holding a knife to his victim's throat gives her free will to either shut up and take it so that she may live (if she tries, she can even enjoy it, maybe she'll understand that this is the best for her) or selfishly reject his mercy and have her throat slashed and then raped anyway. It is not wrong that he does so, because he has the power and therefore only his will matters.

Oh, GC. Do you really think that you, and you alone, know the mind of God?

GC and I disagree on many things, but we agree on many more. Many interesting problems remain and debating these is good. Philosophy and theology are not yet complete systems. Advocating for one set of doctrines about God doesn't negate positing His existence.

The same goes for science. No one says that the scientific method is false just because relativity and quantum mechanics haven't be united or we don't know all the answers.

Pretty sure that GC is going to disagree with you there as well, his theology is complete and very much finished. He isn't going to learn, tomorrow for example, that Kali is the one true god. But hell, maybe I'm wrong, maybe he'll learn that after all.

You're just going to have to own up to the fact that your gods only share a namespace. His -is- the god of talking snakes. Perhaps one or the other of you should start calling your god by another moniker - so as not to confuse the two?

Essentially, we're talking about the difference between the Dracula envisioned by Bram Stoker - and the Dracula as played by Gerard Butler in Dracula 2000.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I think it a good point that often gets overlooked. There are as many Christian gods as there are Christians. I've never seen a uniform description of a god or its traits, even from two Christians who are of the same sect.

God is subjective based on the mind of the believer. What they says goes.

We all believe Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. That's pretty consistent across the board.

Catfish comes to mind, but I won't put words in his mouth...

This isn't true either. There was a Christian here recently proclaiming that belief in Christ wasn't required for salvation. Let me guess, he/she isn't a true christian....shame.

The mind of God (or rather what He wants us to know) has been written down... So unless you can not read (but even then) there is no reason not to know what's on God's mind.

(He tells us in the bible)

You aren't very attentive are you, most Christians of the Southern Baptist will give you the same answers to biblical questions. However there's an aspect of Christianity you do not understand, we each have a personal relationship with God. As individuals differ so do their relationships with God and so you will hear different things from different Christians, this is as natural as relationships between different people. There's nothing subjective about God or the believers relationship with Him. God being omniscient can have as many different relationships as there are those who want a relationship with Him. Thank God for all our differences, it would be a boring world if everyone was like you.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
