Yep. Great news. Expected, but stikl great.

Now to Lords! ... Where it will be a bit tricky. Why do they get a say, again? lol

Here's the bill's progress, if anybody is interested: http://services.parliament.uk/bills/2012...sbill.html

What would a country be if pompous old douchebags weren't given a say?

It's good that gay marriage is gaining ground. Recently passed in my state as well. Which is Minnesota.

Are you being sarcastic? If not, why should anyone fight it?

Majority of the lords are no longer hereditary.

So? Where does it say that being a pompous old douchebag has to be hereditary?

Nowhere.

But if that's the categorisation methodology we're using then pretty every parliament in the world can be labeled as such.

The HOL works in many ways similar to the two houses of the US government. It's a balance of power on the HOC, Which has supreme legitimate authority.

The worst aspect of it is the continuation of the lords spiritual, but many life peers who are in the HOL are actually people at the top of their profession, such as scientists, businessmen and academics who advise on policy and put forward worthwhile amendments.

It's not perfect, but then, when is any system? The idea that the HOL are all heredity old men is a couple of decades out of date.

The more you know :-)

The worst aspect is that it is a) not elected and b) has space reserved for the fucking CoE.

You should go to our system wherein senators are elected who are mouthpieces for powerful business interests who own them lock, stock and barrel.

Far superior!
