While I don't claim to be an expert on this topic, I think the primary reasons behind suicide bombing are:

1. Poverty & hopelessness.
2. Religious indoctrination & hatred. This include absolute certainty of going to heaven "directly" after being blown apart.
3. Revenge against "Jew/Shia/Sunna/Christians..etc".

Well, some people can be very rich, and very liberal, then they turn to fundamentalist Islam and become suicide bombers. They have access to all life can offer, but to them they seek the "afterlife". The OP made it sound like they're bothered with the beard/TV/etc when it is almost a non factor at all.
