NY attorney general will investigate black woman’s death in police custody

New York’s top prosecutor will investigate the death of a 42-year-old black mother of eight while in police custody on shoplifting charges, state officials said on Monday.

Raynette Turner was found unresponsive in her holding cell on July 27, two days after she was arrested on suspicion of stealing crab legs from a supermarket in Mount Vernon, a city on the border of the Bronx borough.

Boston-area police officer charged with beating suspect in handcuffs

Rivera and several other Chelsea police officers were called to a home on reports of a man with a gun and they found a 20-year-old suspect who was intoxicated, police said. Rivera took the man, whose identity was not released, into custody and while he was in handcuffs, Rivera hit him in the face four times, police said on Tuesday.

At the time, Rivera filed a report that the man had become violent, and the suspect was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, police said. A video of the incident showed those charges to be unfounded, police said.

“There is no room in law enforcement for anyone who would beat a handcuffed prisoner or lie in a report,” Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said in a statement. “The evidence suggests this officer engaged in criminal conduct, not police work.”

That's all very nice, Mr. Conley but what about the other cops who were there.  Since it took a video to convince you can we assume that they either saw nothing or backed up their fellow cop?  Why are their reports not falsified, too?  They are just as derelict in their duty as the guy who did the punching.

And he is defended by his chief.

“This town is ridiculous,” Bias, 49, said in an interview. “The police here feel they can do what they want, and often they do.” Alexander City police chief Willie Robinson defended Middlebrooks. “He was just talking. He didn’t really mean that,” he said in an interview.

Big problems in that town, for sure.

Funnily enough, the brother of one of my black neighbors got spooked by tresspassers late at night. He wanted me to ride over there to check it out, and I said just call the cops. He really didn't like that idea.

I don't like getting specific about where I live in Alabama, but that's pretty close to where I live. That worries me.

Lawsuit over handcuffing of Kentucky schoolchildren

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed the lawsuit on behalf of the parents of two children were handcuffed by the "school resource officer".
A video shows a boy with his arms handcuffed above his elbows.
The 52lb (24 kg) child is kept in restraints for 15 minutes.
The video - filmed in November 2014 - shows the handcuffs placed around the eight-year-old boy's biceps. His wrists are too small to fit inside the handcuffs.
"You don't get to swing at me like that," security officer Kevin Sumner, who is also a local deputy sheriff, tells the detained boy who cries throughout the video.

Yup.  Big tough cop has to shackle an 8 year old.  What a fucking asshole.

Unfortunately not. I'm kind of stuck here. I guess I should just consider myself lucky that I'm a white man. If I had money, I'd be at the top of the food chain.
