A Phoenix police sergeant shot and killed a 50-year-old woman while trying to serve a mental-health order at a west-side apartment Thursday afternoon, officials said.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson, a police spokesman, said officers had a court order to take Michelle Cusseaux to a mental-health facility.

Officers went to the Graybriar Condominiums, 3810 N. Maryvale Parkway, to pick up Cusseaux at about 2:15 p.m.

Thompson said caseworkers "were trying to get her to come in for treatment. It got to the point that she wouldn't do that. ... She had a weapon and was making threats."

So, apparently just easier to kill her and save the county the money of treating her.

How did this happen?

Most police officers are good cops and good people.

And Paul was doing okay until that point.

It's irrelevant. If some cop blew you away I have no doubt that every other cop on the force would close ranks behind him to insist that you did something to warrant it.

They think of themselves as cops first and citizens second. And that's where Paul goes off the rails.

The heroes of the Ferguson police force have much to answer for.

Police in Ferguson, Missouri, once charged a man with destruction of property for bleeding on their uniforms while four of them allegedly beat him.

“On and/or about the 20th day of Sept. 20, 2009 at or near 222 S. Florissant within the corporate limits of Ferguson, Missouri, the above named defendant did then and there unlawfully commit the offense of ‘property damage’ to wit did transfer blood to the uniform,” reads the charge sheet.

The address is the headquarters of the Ferguson Police Department, where a 52-year-old welder named Henry Davis was taken in the predawn hours on that date. He had been arrested for an outstanding warrant that proved to actually be for another man of the same surname, but a different middle name and Social Security number.

But as the stings put more and more men behind bars, detectives are working harder and harder to keep up their arrest numbers. And the tactics they're using to put alleged sexual offenders in jail are sweeping up large numbers of law-abiding men, too.

A yearlong investigation by 10 Investigates reveals many of the men whose mugshots have been paraded out by local sheriffs in made-for-TV press conferences were not seeking to meet children online. Instead, they were minding their own business, looking for other adults, when detectives started to groom and convince them to break the law.

In one photo, police officers are responding to the protests in armoured vehicles, initially developed to withstand improvised explosive devices.

Other photos show police wearing army green shirts and camouflage pants, similar to the uniforms of US marines, and carrying guns based on the military-used M4 carbine.

I have to wonder what the difference is between this, and using the military for law enforcement (which has been prohibited by the Posse Comitatus Act since 1878).
