That article mentions several theories, of which only one is direct confrontation. Most of the studies I've come across don't favor that particular one.

Who knows though, eh?

We learn and re-analyze and re-interprete all the evidence over and over again every year.

After watching programmes like this, and the English equivalents (Jordie Shore, Made in Chelsea and TOWIE to name a few), I'm pretty sure humanity is devolving.
